Soft Southern Shandy Drinkers - Take Two - 06/07/08 February 2026

Anyone from the local area keen to sort a medium length ride, say just below warp speed 1 and above chug a long pace? Say leaving camp around 10 and back by 3 so we can be in the pub, sorted for the rugby? Failing that, I can set up a route but can't guarantee best roads!
Looking at the map, we are within easy range of Swanage, Corfe Castle, Studland Nature Reserve, Lulworth Cove, all of Steptoe’s TE Lawrence landmarks, Portland, the Dorset Heritage Coast…we should be able to plan a decent ride with a couple of interesting stops.

Fish and chips for lunch?

Now that we are the magnificent seven, we should turn our heads towards catering;

A. BBQ kit etc

I am happy to bring my collapsible braai, a gas BBQ, BBQ knife, scissors etc

We will need some lumps of wood for the braai. If someone can bring that, please.

Does anyone else intend to bring anything? If so, what?

1. Friday evening

I suggest we eat in the pub.

I am happy to call the pub to make a reservation at say 19:00.

Is there anyone who DOESN’T want to be included? Please let us know by MONDAY so I can make the booking.

2. Breakfast Saturday

I am happy to bring, bacon, sausages, bread or rolls, sauces, butter, tea, coffee and milk.

Is there anyone who DOESN’T want breakfast? Please let us know by MONDAY so I can make a shopping list.

3. BBQ / Braai on Saturday night

We need to careful not to over order, please.

Is there anyone who DOESN’T want to take part? Please let us know by MONDAY

Who wants to be part of Don’s Braai? Please let us know by MONDAY in the hope that he’ll kindly go shopping again.

Who plans to bring some BBQ food to cook, if so what? Let’s not end up with tons.

I suggest everyone just brings their own booze / soft drinks.

4. Sunday morning

I suggest we all just do our own thing

Saturday breakfast, yes again
Saturday BBQ including Braai, yes yes

I’m in danger of being stood up by my four legged squeeze given he’s a dickhead and not the type to sit patiently in the pub - far more likely to feck off and greet everyone enthusiastically whether they welcome it or not. He’s just turned two so he may calm down miraculously by then

If in the van (likely) I’ll have a fridge for everyone’s use. Any one got any suggestions I can bring?

As I am slumming in a Shepherds hut, my belief is that breakfast in the pub is included in the cost, therefore:

Friday pub meal - yes please
Sat breakfast - no thanks, will eat in pub
Sat Braai - yes please

Thanks all

Excellent, I think that’s everyone. Thank you for the speedy replies.

I’ll call the pub and make the reservation for Friday evening’s nosebag.

I’ll create a simple list of who would like what and share it here. But first, I need to step out and, selflessly, investigate a pub on behalf of some friends of mine. The things I do! I only hope that St Peter has taken notes and that he can find them when I arrive at the pearly gates.

PS Shame if the hound can’t make it.
