Soft Southern Shandy Drinkers - Take Two - 06/07/08 February 2026

Well I knew it was too good to last having a ‘spare weekend’. No.2 Son has found himself a flat so I’ll be moving him in.. this very same weekend. Apologies to Sir Wapping for making the effort, I’m afraid I can’t get there. Cock

Update

and then there was six….

List of soft shandy drinking southerners

Wapping
The Other PaulG
Toddmeister
Loiq
Ianak
‘spunk trumpet’

Possible additions

Orinoco (Arrival TBA)
DJ123 (Saturday arrival)

At the moment a lot of Dorset is under water
The world was cut off from my bit of Dorset on Wednesday as the bridges at either end both flooded.

Hope everyone out there managed OK.

With less than a week to go, here is what I think is the updated list vis-a-vis the meal in the pub and catering:

A. Friday night dinner in the pub - Five persons

Wapping
The Other PaulG
Loiq
Toddmeister
‘spunk trumpet’

Table booked for 19:00

B. Saturday breakfast - Four persons

Wapping
The Other PaulG
Loiq
‘spunk trumpet’ - I think

I will bring enough bacon, sausages, butter, sauces, bread / rolls, tea, milk, coffee, sugar to cater for four persons, so there’ll be no need for anyone to bring anything more…. Unless they are vegan.

Please bring your own plate, mug / dainty cup and saucer and cutlery.

C. Saturday Braai / BBQ - Six persons

Wapping
The Other PaulG
Loiq
Toddmeister
Ianak
‘spunk trumpet’

D. Sunday

Is Do It Yourself. The pub does (or did) breakfasts. I suggest that those that want the pub breakfast make their bookings.

=============

Floating off in the wind somewhere - Two persons

Orinoco (Arrival TBA)
DJ123 (Saturday arrival, possibly)

Just a reminder for those that haven’t been to the site before. Despite last year’s heavy rain (which closed the site we have used in the summer) this site remained open.

The ground does seem to drain well but it can have stones an inch or so under the grass. Unless you fancy using your head to bang your tent pegs in, I’d suggest bringing a hammer. Likewise, tent pegs made from cheesy-strings, might well not cut the mustard.

Sorry folks, I'll unlikely to be there, aged mother is in and out of hospital, twice in the last two weeks, and when not in hospital seems to need constant in home or telephone help. Plus I gave away my bounce aid last year to the local canoe group after selling the kayak 😂 definitely looks like a 'must' have this week, we've been flooded in the village and I expect Wool is worse as near the end of the River Frome.

Have fun :)

Thanks for the news, all be it not the greatest for you.

God willing, weather permitting, we’ll be back in the summer.

Unfortunately i'll be out for this weekend, Saturday plans are going to take longer than initially expected.

Given the unprecedented amount of rain in Dorset, and our site’s location near to numerous water courses, it seems inconceivable that we could still camp.

However…when the New Forest site was completely waterlogged a couple of years ago, the Seven Stars felt almost entirely unaffected. Hard to believe, but true.

I will check later in the week to be sure it’s ok, but I really don’t anticipate any issues.

Hark Wapping’s comments re stony ground and strong tent pegs, though, these two issues are not entirely unrelated.

I've been to the 7 stars today on my rideout and the site is fine , there is flood water over the road in one place but that's because the drains are blocked or there is no drain the water level of the stream running alongside is much lower than the road . surrounding fields are flooded here's a couple of pics 20260204_115929.jpg20260204_115925.jpg20260204_121349.jpg

sorry been in A+E had a minor technical issue.... yesterday and today

normal service is resuming as of later today...

my mate Dave the bloke that lives locally has bottled it... I think.... not been able to raise him for a couple of days.

have added a bag of charcoal to the back of the pickup, some other odds and ends and now rumaging the sleeping bag out and a camping chair
