Its going on Tuesday. I've traded it on a 1200RT and I'm going to look at an HP2 or an HP1, but until I make my mind up. I'm just going to hire a bike for any adventure rides.

If I ever buy a GS again, I will not have ABS. I have been having problems with front brake shudder. BMW first thought is was a damaged ABS ring on the front wheel, they tell me all there has to be is a very small stone chip and the sensor will pick this up which can make the ABS turn off and on. The other problem is a warped disk. They then thought this was the problem, so they replaced it but within a day the brakes where doing it again. Now it looks like the front wheel is bent only slightly, but this could be enough for the ABS sensor to pick it up and make the ABS turn off and on. I new about the bent wheel, it is only very slightly bent on the outer rim through riding over rocks. we had about 5 1200gs bikes on the day bend there front wheels on this road.

You would never know the front wheel is bent riding it or fitting new tires.

I don't like the new adventure. It will be a pig with all the extra load it has to carry as it only has the standard 1200gs gear box.

My wife said she liked riding on the 1150 adventure, but has not liked the 1200gs, she only told me last night.

She loves the 1200rt and it will be fun riding it on the odd gravel road which is getting less as the local council is sealing a lot of them.

Enjoy the RT. Its a great bike. Very different to the GS but surprisingly sporty and loads of toys to play with. Same weight as a standard 1150 GS.

I changed from the GS to the RT because my wife didn't like the GS either but loves the RT. She keeps pushing me into planning European trips. Shame. :D :D

You two must be on the wrong site now then....

Absolutely right but this site has a strange power which keeps drawing me back and its fun watching all the 1150vs1100vs1200vsairhead debates with no direct interest. :D

Not sure you could blame the bike or ABS for a shudder when you have a bent wheel. Fix the wheel. It's kinda like "throwing the baby out with the bath water".

I've had shudders on my GS as well when the ABS is turned on but I have to be REALLY screaming down a twisty road pulling in the lever hard enough to kick the unit in and out. It can happen. Usually on a road with a "washboard" type surface. When I'm riding that hard I just turn the ABS off. Simple fix and only possible on the GS.

If you are REALLY going to push the limits of cornering and braking don't buy ABS. On a rough road you will have problems. I don't have it on my K1200R for that reason. Again, I stress how hard you have to be pushing it for this to happen.

Having your wife happy is probably worth the switch.

Happy motoring!!!

As we all know if the wife is happy life is great. The wife has said I can get a HP 1 or 2. :clap I'm not sure I want to spend the money :eek

I have not changed the bike because of the ABS. What I was trying to say is the ABS system on the GS is too prone too damage when adventure riding. The front wheel is ever so slightly bent and would only cost $200.00 to reair.

Sad to hear you are moving on Kiwi.

I've not yet had any of the problems you have outlined. Apart from the top box. I broke my 2nd one now and am requesting refund. I will be getting Zega's.

Good luck,

Gonz.
Ps. You got any GS stuff to flog?
