The ATAS now has 25,000 miles on it. Oil and filters changed now time for a bit of chassis maintenance. Decided to strip out the swing arm and shock linkages for their annual clean and regrease.

Crud scrapped off with an old credit card and cleaned with GT85 and a microfiber cloth.

Came up fairly well.

Even the dogbone.

Plenty of space to clean the shock.

Nice new chain and sprockets fitted when putting the thing back together.

After 25,000 miles there are some witness marks on the collars in the shock link and swing arm but no brinelling that I could feel and no play so everything was regreased and put back together. There was probably another 5,000 miles of life in the old chain and sprockets (very little wear in the rear sprocket at all). But since I'd everything pulled apart it made sense to do it at the same time as the chain could be pulled off without cutting it and I had the luxury of riveting the new chain on the bench before fitting it rather than scrabbling about on the ground. Kept me occupied for a few hours!!

Didn't mention got warmly slapped round the lugs by the missus for walking from the garage to the kitchen with some dirt/chain lube stuck on my boots (leaving a tell tail trail on the nice light grey carpet)......which should have been changed for slippers on leaving the garage. :D

Me and another work mate went into the local town after work and went into a shop just before closing and as I waited at the counter I glanced down at the floor and to my horror we'd left black foot prints on the freshly mopped floor, except I'd gone one way and he'd gone the other way round the store. As the cashier handed me my stuff I said, "I'm terribly sorry, We've just ruined you floor" she lent over the counter and looked at our tracks back to the door. We very carefully tried to tiptoe back on our own footprints not to make it worse.

Metal powders and carbon dusts didn't mix well with water

Looks like you’ve got a Scott oiler fitted wise man , I’m a fan of Scott oilers they do save the chain from wear and keep the chain clean.
I know some folks don’t like them but if fitted and adjusted correctly there great.
👍
