someone explain Rukka jackets to me?

Rukka Armas

I've used Rukka gear for years, it's always kept all extremes of cold and wet out and been functionally excellent. However, a couple of years back my "Armadillo" jacket turned a kind of purple colour. Rukka offered a replacement, I changed to an ArmaS suit.
After a couple of years some of what were originally black panels turned to a light "dirty" grey. Rukka had the jacket for six weeks for evaluation, then returned it saying that fading was "not a warranty issue". The jacket looks scruffy as hell. The retailer is not exactly falling over himself to sort it out, although the onus is on him and not TranAm or Rukka to remedy the issue. So it's not all hearts and flowers with the product.

So what's the problem with a bit of 'fading' :nenau

Does it detract from the effectiveness of the the jacket?

Are you a rider or a poser :aidan

:beerjug:

The Arma-S got a mention in January's RIDE mag, Matt Hull got knocked off at about 50 mph on some Shellgrip, you know, that especially grippy surfacing they sometimes have at roundabouts. Not a particularly high speed, perhaps, but a very abrasive surface. The suit came out quite well, he seemed quite pleased with the protection it provided.

 a jacket fades after a couple of years, how dare it

Argonaut

Well I went for the argonaut in the end. I thought the armas was just a bit too much and paid 660 in the shop after a tiny bit of haggling. I'll let you know what I think!

Also bought the c3 pro too so totally lost the plot today.... Merry Xmas to me :)

Why is the onus on the retailer and not the manufacturer?
I thought the onus was on the retailer for 12 months??

rukka

just done a 5 week trip through spain to morocco and back cant fault my rukka armas jacket and trousers does what it says on the tin, didnt use my heated vest was warm and dry! well worth the money

The BMW Rally is a great jacket but more suited to hot terrain where it doesn't rain

Gets waterlogged when it does and goes all kinda cold

The elbows fill with water when riding a GS outside the goretex lining of course but get off the bike and it runs down in to your gloves!

Every word of Micky's is very true and wet gloves is poo :eek

So Rukka Armas is the new tw@t suit then ? The only choice for every well-heeled and hardened 'Adventurer' ? :hide

What will you all do if Ewan and Charleeeee use the same suit on their next adventure ?

Think I'll stick with my Barbour suit :thumb

Just a subtle hint of envy in there :D

'Fraid not Mickey. I never follow the herd :beerjug:

But I do detect a less than subtle envy of my Barbour suit ;)

Following the herd would be to wear a tw@tt suit :D

Barbour suit? Mmmmm I think it was in 1964 or 1965 I bought my first Barbour ;)

:beerjug:

1964, I was 1 year old then
(tongue in cheek mode on)
You wait and see, THOSE tw@ts will be wearing Rukka next time :rob You may have been one of the fashion conscious leaders but when everyone else is wearing Rukka (and I see a lot of Rukka suits these days) , you'll just look like a follower ;)

Still, you ride an F800 so you can't be all bad :beerjug: You'll know me when you see me - I'll be the only one in a proper Barbour suit - but how will I know you ? I'd like to buy you a pint for all your useful posts on the F800 :beerjug:

(tongue in cheek mode off)

I bought a Barbour something around 1980 it's silver with some reflective strips on it.

It's got no protection in it but if it's lashing it down it's my first choice of Jacket.

I'm not sure what material it's made from, but it doesn't hold water, plus I've never got even slightly damp in it,only down side is you need a thick fleece on underneath.

I can't remember ever worrying about what I look like ;)

.... and thanks for the kind words :thumb

What's the Armas like in hot weather?

Thinking of a 2 week trip around Southern France in July - August

if it's anything like my A-Tech jacket with Armas trews, fecking hot!

if i think the weather will be warm, i wear something else. if wet, then the rukka is the one :thumb2

what is needed is two suits.

if you don't want to do that, then a well ventilated suit and a genuinely waterproof over suit is the only alternative IMO.
