Something for the weekend sir?

No idea who dermot is, but getting a bit jealous now ...

If you intend riding it off road you are going to need a better top triple -that flat plate just isn't up to serious off road work. DAHIK
And I hope the welder re annealed the lower triple after he welded it------.

I don't intend riding it anywhere,it's not mine,
the nearest its going to get to off road is the pavement outside the cafe ,for a latte with sprinkles .:D:D
I really don't think a blob of weld is going to fuck the job up, do you??
I do agree with the top yoke, but at present I haven't been able to find a lower yoke of the correct size to convert, hence I had the original refinished to keep the ball rolling:thumb

Welding alloy is a safety thing - and I think we all have a duty to remind others when safety is a concern.
As I dont know what alloy the bottom triple is made from, and what annealing at received after manufacture, or how it was welded I have no idea if it is safe or not.
As a general rule structural aluminum should be re annealed after welding, but as it is a complex process which can take several days only the best welders do it, and most manufactures of structural components like wheels and twin spar sports bike frames simply rule out any repairs whatsoever.

Ok beemerboff,I have taken that on board,I shall consult with my engineer tommorrow over coffee,I'll, let you know his thoughts on the matter:thumb

Actually,scrub all of that,the fucking thing hasn't broken in 38 years,get a grip fella,
I don't doubt your your good intent for a moment,but let's get real, it's a fucking motorbike,not a turbine blade doing a zillion metres a second.
The bike is a posing scrambler, this was tha brief from the outset, the most stress it will ever see will be if the baristre is off sick:thumb

Double espresso if you please - I don't do milk ;)

Facts please, not foul mouthed invective, they are much more useful to other members who may wish to further their knowledge.
If, and that is a big if, you actually want to learn something about structural high strength aluminum there is plenty out there, Wiki will lead you plenty of useful stuff which, if you persist long enough, might give you a little understanding of the subject.
But I am not holding my breath.

Mr Boff. I am not an engineer so am having difficulty understanding this. As the yolk wasn't heated up, just some blobs of weld dropped into the little holes to block them up, would this be enough to damage the molecules in the yolk to render it unusable?

Which one was it?
Three different ages of gearbox, spot the differences, identify the approx years
Bonus points if you can also identify the two boxes at the back:D:D:blast
You may or may not win a prize:comfort

This, from the chap that accuses others (including engineers) that have valid engineering opinons as being "braying Jackasses".

As ever, Beemerboffs way is the only way:blagblah
