I was really dissappointed when they bought this out. Hasnt the success of the GS and KTM told them there is a huge market for adventure touring bikes that are capable off going off road. This is just another road bike and looks no more exciting or inspiring than a Fazer to me.

Thats what I thought but according to sales figures the 07 Tiger is out selling the 1200GS.

I'm on my third Triumph all 1200's the first one had 63,000 miles on it when I sold it. Only component I had to replace was the HT leads, it still had its original exhaust system.

I nearly bought a 955i Tiger instead of my 1100GS but just couldnt live with the strange styling, much prefer the look of the first models.

I posted a "pro's and con's of owning a GS" thread a while back (now lurking on page 3 of this part of the forum), trying to find out if it was worth getting a GS.

Unfortunately, due to the high initial cost of ownership, and concerns about air cooled bikes, I bought my fourth Triumph Tiger instead.

The Tiger is such a brilliant bike, I couldn't resist.

It's a brand new 2006 Tiger with twin panniers, heated grips and centre stand as standard fit. I wonder what the cost of the equivalent GS would have been. The Tiger cost £6,000 on the road ??

So, just a note to say thanks for the advice, and you never know, when I'm rich enough, I may be able to afford a GS !!

I had one of first tigers great bike but think gs tops it but its not what you ride but the way you ride it (or some crap like that)

As for the 'you will lose more money in the end' argument, I don't see how by spending 50% more on a bike can save you money. Servicing costs are £80/6000miles and £120/12000miles plus parts from my main dealer.

Where do you get those servicing costs from? Most people are paying far more than that for a service on a Triumph at a Triumph dealer.

Dave.Boulder is correct it is the 2006 "old shape" Tiger 955i - the one that is still a "Big Trailie". The 2007 Tiger 1050 is an absolute joke and has sold out us "Big Trailie" riders big-time. They should have named it something completely different like the - "Justajapbikeindisguisethatappeasestheshortarserider" (or something like that!!).

Now Triumph no longer have a "Big Trailie" in their stable, it opens the floodgates for the GS and KTM.

As I mentioned, it was only the initial cost of ownership that put me off the GS, It's still a great bike and you never know, one day ??

Stockport Triumph. (possibly +vat? - i've only had the 6000 done so far) Great people. Shop has to be seen to be beleived (hasn't been decorated or re-fitted for 30 years ) But all those new glass and chrome new bike shops have to be paid for by someone -the customer.

First service (600miles)is free, is that still the case with bmw?

If it is of any relevance, I used to think the tiger used to look like a startled fawn with spaniel's ears. After living with one for a year, I still do.

Years of trouble free My R1200GS has broken down more times then I care to remember . Just been informed Gearbox Input Shaft seals gone and BMW Bristol cannot fix until end of May as Rydales in Cardiff shut and they are very busy.

Whilst I love the bike, its no good if you cannot go any where on it. Been recovered three times in twelve months, once in Germany. Anyway had my in the corner.

So the quote for the 6000 mile service is just the labour element? Most people are paying about £150-180 for the 6000 mile service (all in price including parts and VAT). If you think you are going to pay £120 for the 12000 mile service then be prepared for a big shock! I just had an engine service done on my 2004 Sprint ST. I had changed the oil and filter,fuel filter and air filter myself prior to the service, but with a coolant change and MOT test it still came to £218. That was 3 hours labour, the cost of the coolant and £27 for the MOT. If I had had the full service done the labour would have come in at 6 hours (at £49 + VAT per hour).

The air filter was £18, £9 for the oil filter and the genuine Triumph fuel filter is £34 (and the big joke is it's the same as fitted to the 1100/1150 GS's which you can buy for £13 from a BMW dealer).

If you have the full service done by a Triumph dealer you will be looking at £350-400, and that is before adding in other stuff such as brake pads (if required). The 12000 service on my 1200GS just came in at £212.

Triumph are also going for the corporate look and pushing their dealers to spend the cash to upgrade their showrooms. A few down on the south coast have lost teh franchise or told Triumph to poke it because of the pressure from the factory to change to the corporate look.

Just checked receipts for 6000mile service. Labour £70. Fully synth oil £29. Total bill £126 inc vat

I have heard of horror stories about the 12k service, so grilled him last time i spoke. Labour £120. Usually comes in at about £200 overall.

Granted labour only figures first quoted were a bit misleading

I know they are under a lot of pressure from Triumph uk to 'get corporate'. Thankfully so far they seem to have resisted.
