Hey guys

So today me and mate swop bikes. He stops at a junction on my GSA and drops it  he actually laid it down and remarkably the only bit of damage is to the cylinder head crash bar where the gravel has scratched it and roughed it up a little.

So what's the best way of dealing with this, wire wool and spray it or do any of you geniuses have another option,

Thanks

I dropped mine with black SW motech ones on. I used a file to take off the high points the filled and sanded the scratches then used some Hammerite black spray paint. It's acrylic and takes a few coats but makes a reasonable job

Why bother? They're crash bars.

Yeh I know but it's just the way I like to do things, maybe a bit OCD but I think if I look after the old girl she'll look afte me:D

Being a bit thick what is dress with files?

Mine had some quite visible scratch marks on them where the bar scraped the uneven surface of the road as the gravel gouged the bar. I got rid of the high points by filing them following the circumference of the bars to remove them so the profile returned. That left some shallow scratches which I then filled with car body filler and rubbed down with wet and dry so the round profile of the bar was returned to normal then painted them if that explains things better?

Just remove any high spots and bad scuffs with metal files. Don't use a course file, just a 'fine' one. If you haven't got any be sure to buy a fairly good quality set. Draper files are inexpensive but do the job.
The Garyflex blocks are grit impregnated rubber blocks and with care you can replicate the original finish.

Thanks guys sounds like a plan:thumb

Just use a bit of fine wet & dry sandpaper. Then, once sanded, give them a wipe over with WD40.:thumb

Tell him to meet you at the dealers and bring his credit card

Yep. My three month old GS rolled off the side stand after we went to the Wensleydale creamery in 2013!:blast:D

Strange you say that. I had a 2013 gs demo bike do the same luckily for me I was stood next to it so it stopped falling when it hit my legs so I just turned around and stood it back up.

I said at the time the stand design was shite I may have been right.

Sorry to hear that
All forgotten now
Up this way, this year ?

Yeah, that was years ago! Not sure if will be up that way, but will give you a shout if so.:thumb

I just make sure I always park any bike in gear now, regardless of road surface/ camber. It hasn't happened since. ;)

Only ever happened once with me and on the same model and year as it happened with you I guess that's just a coincidence ;)
