Soundbomb mini issues

I’ve installed a soundbomb mini on my R1200 GS LC (2014) but when I press the horn it sounds but if I hold the horn on it goes beep beep beep on and off instead of consistently and after about 5 beeps it stops and the horn won’t sound unless I turn the bike off and on again.


Anyone ever come across this before or got any pearls of wisdom as to why I might be?

The intermittent beeping and shutdown suggest the Sound Bomb Mini is drawing more current than the bike's electronics can sustain, triggering a protective shutdown. Wiring a relay from the battery with a fuse should resolve this.

I believe they made an over the counter kit for such events...includes relay and fuse, wiring from battery and rerouting horn wires through the relay.
Perhaps someone who has fitted one can explain more clearly.

It`s probably giving the electronics the vapours and tripping the polyfuse in the ZFE Zentrale Fahrzeugelektronik or Central Vehicle Electronics,

A quick Google suggests the Soundbomb Mini is rated at 60W and 5A which is possibly more than the original and what the circuit was rated for, you may need to power it via a relay.

Easiest option is to install a Hexezecan. You can then refit the original and power the soundbomb from the hex. A side effect if doing it this way (at least on my 1250RS) is that when I press the horn button the original sounds 1st followed shortly after by the soundbomb, so if I just want to give a short bip on the horn I can do it without the full fat blast of both, keep the button pressed and both sound together.

Ooo. That’s an interesting option. I was hoping for an easy horn upgrade but I have a hex ezcan so might look into that! No free channels on it at the moment (2 x spot, dash cam, brake light) so would need to split a channel or drop something else.

Definitely worth looking into though and in the mean time will just switch back to the original horn.
