Hi,

Just thought I'd add my own experiences here.

In the last month or so I've been looking out for a used R1200GS. My Kwak 1200 was in need of some cash spending on it if I was going to sell it privately, so I was keen to see if a part-ex would be worth doing.

First stop was SPC. I'll not mention names here, but the salesman ignored my instructions ("I want to part-ex the Kawasaki plus £xxx in cash") and put all his effort into trying to sell me a brand new bike on finance. When I finally got the message across that I wasn't going to do that, he lost all interest - and as it turns out, a sale too.

Second stop was Coopers in Reading. Again I explained my requirements. Well, I'm still waiting for a call back with a part-ex price on the Kawasaki...

I was feeling slightly bemused by this point - do BMW not want to sell me a bike???? I took a trip up to North Oxford Garage, and even though it was a Saturday and they were relatively busy, I got dealt with exactly as I would have expected. A nice long test ride and a price sorted out for the Kawasaki, and I'm the proud owner of a 54 plate 1200GS.

I can only assume that the other dealers are doing so well that they don't need to put in the effort to sell their bikes. I'll certainly be travelling the extra few miles to NOG for servicing. Oh, and I'll be in the market for some new kit before winter too - can you guess where I won't be spending my cash???

Cheers,

- Ian

I myself was very happy the way I was dealt with (sales) in SPC, however it wasn't all that good an experience when I had my 600mile service.

1. They left of the blanking caps whilst doing the throttle boddies.
2. The tick over was at 1600rpm (settled down to 1500rpm with replacement caps)
3. Had a funny rattle a few days later, left it a few weeks then decieded to investigate and found a oil filter socket rattling around on the sump guard.
4. Oh yeah found they had not replaced the 2 bolts that attach it to the frame (near the centre stand) only had 4 bolts holding the sump guard to the crash bars!

Basically I'd buy another bike from them, but forget the servicing guys.
You may ask why don't I complain? well I can't be arsed. If you mess up when it comes to servicing you don't get a second chance to redeem yourself.
My mate was nearly killed when some twat forgot to tighten up his top yokes and his handle bars came of in his hands on a dual caridgeway. :( (yes after a service)

Coopers 10 out of 10 for their w an k attitide
SPC 0 for servicing
NOG ? Stay tuned for verdict

Hi Moo,

I think things would certainly have been different if I was buying new (as I assume you were). Once they realised they weren't going to "persuade" me to sign up for finance on a new machine, they lost interest. Quite literally, the salesman walked away from me, back to his desk and got on with something else! I was astounded!

Tall thin guy, or a different one? (Edit by Tarka)
After their last, (and final!!) service it idled at 1300 rpm, book says 1100 +/- 50, small point, but as you said why complain, just walk & don't return. I've had some issues with them myself. Although, admitedly minor.

I work in the quality department of an enginering company, you realise that just because you don't get complaints, doesn't mean your service is good. Repeat orders don't appear!!

Customer satisfaction.

Posting out a Wunderlich catalogue at 98p a hit is meaningless, when you've already got one. Especially without a price list!

You listening SPC?

Given Cooper's impending closure of their bike area, I'm not surprised they failed to impress. Unless they give customer service some focus when they eventually re-open on a different site (to the south of the town apparently) then they will continue to be lacklustre.

Can not comment on SPC, but thus far far impressed with NOG. Time will tell...
