Hi,
Just thought I'd add my own experiences here.
In the last month or so I've been looking out for a used R1200GS. My Kwak 1200 was in need of some cash spending on it if I was going to sell it privately, so I was keen to see if a part-ex would be worth doing.
First stop was SPC. I'll not mention names here, but the salesman ignored my instructions ("I want to part-ex the Kawasaki plus £xxx in cash") and put all his effort into trying to sell me a brand new bike on finance. When I finally got the message across that I wasn't going to do that, he lost all interest - and as it turns out, a sale too.
Second stop was Coopers in Reading. Again I explained my requirements. Well, I'm still waiting for a call back with a part-ex price on the Kawasaki...
I was feeling slightly bemused by this point - do BMW not want to sell me a bike???? I took a trip up to North Oxford Garage, and even though it was a Saturday and they were relatively busy, I got dealt with exactly as I would have expected. A nice long test ride and a price sorted out for the Kawasaki, and I'm the proud owner of a 54 plate 1200GS.
I can only assume that the other dealers are doing so well that they don't need to put in the effort to sell their bikes. I'll certainly be travelling the extra few miles to NOG for servicing. Oh, and I'll be in the market for some new kit before winter too - can you guess where I won't be spending my cash???
Cheers,
- Ian
