Does anybody know how accurate the speed indication on the 2610 is?

Cheers, Lee

Accuracy

As long as a piece of string? It'll depend on the DOP I think as the more acurately betty boo knows where she is the more accurate will the distance / time calculation become. As an example, see how much more slowly the speed value changes when the satellite status isn't very good eg behind a Mondeo windscreen. HTH.

Also if you've ever downloaded the tracks and zoomed in it seems to show the raw data not the rubber banded to a road that we see on the road. Which I guess would make it difficult for the tax revenue generators to use it as evidence. God knows what we see displayed on the bike though. Best as Mr PanEuropean.

I checked my BMW Nav II (2610 in drag I believe) with a calibrated police stopwatch over tha local measured mile (used for speed detection equipment calibration).

Allowing for the slight signal delay, it was much more accurate than the speedo to the extent that I ignore the speedo now and go by the Nav as long as I have a signal.

More accurate than your bike speedo, thats why it probably appears to run upto 5 mph fast, some of our cars have GPS and its speed readings are as accurate as the calibrated speedos.

Thanks for the info guys :thumb. I'll be fitting a different speedo drive this weekend so I'll be able to check it against the GPS for a comparison.
It's got to be better than following someone and trying to interperet their signals :D

Well Garmin reckon it's accurate to 0.05 meters per second. So .05 * 60 * 60 gives 180 meters per hour accuracy. So if there's about 1610 meters in a mile, so 180 / 1610 = 0.12 mph accuracy.

So I reckon if you're travelling in a nice striaght line you should get an accuracy reading of 0.12 mph.

Mind you my maths may be way off!

Either way you're still going to get done by the Gatso's when hooning round like a loon!

Remember that your unit is working out a position once every second and the speed displayed is the average speed between these two positions.

So if you are accelerating or braking then the speed will be out (average not current) but if you stay at a constant speed for 1-2 seconds then check your speedo you will be fine.
