speed limit - wrong units

afternoon,

Had my '19 1250GSA for a month or so now, and have been using the connected app for nav etc. Until yesterday all was good - but the units for the speed limits has changed - bikes speed is in MPH but the roads speed limit has changed to KPH (shows 46 in a white rectangle on 30mph roads, 80 instead of 50 etc).

From manuals I think the speed and speed limit should both be the same units, and if set to kph should be in a red circle and mph in a white rectangle - I'm only getting the white square...

anyone got any good ideas how to kick it back into sense?

Make sure your speed settings in the ap are set to mph.

I have done - no 'speed' settings, but distance is set to MPH.

I've tried switching everything to KPH, restarting phone, reconnecting to bike, then setting back to MPH and restarting but still the same

Settings - App Settings - Distance
yup, thats what I meant sorry, App Distance is set to miles (not MPH) but I would have thought that should make the bike show speeds in MPH... perhaps there has been a map update and its got MPH/KPH confused? but I guess I wouldn't be the only one if so...

Reddit Discussion

Possibly found an answer to my issue - its not me, its BMW... Or at least I've found some others who updated their app a day or two ago and it seems the speed limits have got confused in the update. Looks like I'll ignore the issue until its updated and fixed.

Apparently I'm now on version of iOS 17.1.2... and the BMW Connected app was also updated 2 days ago to now include more R1300GS bike info - in case either of those are updates that others want to avoid for the time being!

The same as me, guess I'll have a laugh and change the bike to Kph until the mothership sorts out the issue

I've raised it with BMW, got the usual response about changing settings. I've gone back and asked them to check with the app team to see if they are aware of the issue

Has anybody actually emailed the app support team (their email is in the Play store) to let them know as once they get a few emails they will actually fix the issue

[email protected]

I’ve messaged them again today because the app is not syncing with the bike reliably - tank capacity %’age not correct, is stuck on where it was days ago.
Also, ride recording has gone wrong - says it is recording but mileage stays at 0 and when you stop recording the ride just disappears. Humph!

I'm having the same speed limit display issue and have emailed BWM at [email protected]. I've tried changing the App MPH/KPH setting setting back and forth, uninstalling and reinstalling the App, shutting down and restarting the bike, toggling the TFT "display speed limit" setting in the TFT, all without correcting the issue.

It seems releasing shoddy untested coding is the thing these days, I have recently experienced it with my Dell computer, my GS-911 OBDC tool, and now with the BMW Connected App/TFT combination.

I'm a software test engineer.

I can confirm most testing is shoddy because

There isn't enough testers, not enough money, not enough time and the PM wants to finish everything in time and on budget so he looks good especially as the app doesn't actually make any money as you don't purchase anything in it.

Its also impossible to test for everything (until AI comes in)

I expect no difference from the BMW.

I got an email reply back from a robot at [email protected] advising me that "Your request (#####) was created. Our support team will take care of your case shortly."

I hope everyone who is experiencing this issue will likewise email their complaint and request a remedy from [email protected]. I believe the more complaints submitted, the sooner we might see some action by BMW. The squeaky wheel gets the grease.

Here's the body of an email I received today in reference to the "TFT displaying wrong speed limit figures" issue:

"Dear Sir or Madame,

Thank you for your e-mail. We appreciate your efforts to direct your request to us.

The topic you mentioned has already been reported to us by several users and is currently being processed. We ask for your patience until we can publish an update on this.

Kind Regards,

Me too today, first time ridden in a while and is very odd to experience.

At least they are aware, I’m sure whatever they did to create the issue will be resolved soon enough.

Managed years without this fancy tech on my bike, so won’t get too mardy about it.

got to be honest, with the speed that limits are changing around here now, I never trust any sat nav not even "live" systems like Waze/Google etc
