Speedo overlay

If it fits the Motrax converter would work better as it is a geared gizmo that fits between the cable and speedo. I had one on my ZRX as the stickers couldn't be seen in the dark and look tacky.

Anotherr way is to put a dot of Tippex at 30, 50, 70 and 100MPH then you can see how fast your going. But again in the dark its not ideal.;)

Buy a GPS and get an average illuminated display.
Or alternatively learn to convert KPH to MPH
50kph = 31mph
100KPH = 62.5mph
Divide kph readings by 8 and then multiply by 5.
I have a kph speedo and sometimes pass the time on boring roads by converting the KPH to MPH
Sad I know

Doing the calculation is not an issue ... drove KPH car in the UK on many occassions ...

I just want to know what the legal need is for an MOT.

SVA test states that the major gradations should be in MPH. If it's metric it must be an import ? GS ADV is less than 3 years old, so no MOT required......I'm confused....:nenau

It's a 02 Adv 1150 from Switzerland - so it is 4 years old.

I am hoping the 1200 Bandit overlay I have just bought from e bay can be adapted to fit. It's looks like the dimensions will be ok

That explains it......:beerjug:
As long as the sweep angle is the same & the span (maximum "corrected" reading) is the same, you should be OK.

Oooops I almost forgot, if it's less than 10 years old it's going to need a SVA test prior .......

And what is that ...?

And even though it comes from Swizzy - which nods it's head in the direction of the EU?
Give me a ring if you get stuck,spend most of our time at the sva station sorting out harley choppers from the states:D

can make some calls if need be;)

My GS has passed all its MOTs without an overlay.
I do not think they even notice and I do not tell them
It is a 1999 GS.

KPH to MPH

Hi, u have the same question as me, I'm new to this site, just moved to UK from Switzerland, so can u tell me if u received any advice?

I have a GS1200 Adv and need to avoid replacing my KPH speedo (£500 BMW tell me). Are u sure overlay stickers are accepted by registration dept?

are u saying that when u went to VOSA with a KPH clock they didn't even notice or care that u had a KPH speedo? The issue I have is I am going to the inspection place specifically to get a certificate/registration to legalise my GS for UK roads. I have already chaged headlight, but am told a KPH conversion to MPH is essential.

Any advice most welcome.
