Spidi Admiral...

Brand new Spidi 2pc leather for sale

I recently spotted an ad for a 2nd hand Spidi 2 piece leather suit in a biker's cafe. Unfortunately when I tried the suit on it was too tight - a bit like putting on my wet suit, but the suit itself is gorgeous. Top quality leather and brand new in silver, black and some gold. The guy is selling it cos it hurts his back - he was well into his 50s and rides a Gixxer thou (previous bikes were a Busa and a Blackbird).

He only wants £200 for a suit that cost £600 and is immaculate. It is a continental size 54, 44" chest and 36" waist. If the thing had fitted me I would have had it like a shot. If anybody is interested send me a PM and I'll give you the guys phone number, he lives in Telford by the way.

Did anyone see or even buy one of these Spidi Admiral suits in the end? I've just got this response from their UK representatives:

The Spidi Admiral suit retails at £599.99, and is available in sizes Small - 3XL from 20th October 2006.

Unfortunately, I do not know who has stock of this item in the UK, as it is usually ordered only for special customer orders.

To add to SiBorg's post you can pick up the Fieledsheer Higland 1 piece from here for £99.99

Looks impressive and I'm weighing up whether to go for this or get the HG Cruise GTX pants to go with my jacket.

Fieldsheer stuff is well made with quality armour in the right places but unfortunately I've had a few leaks on Fieldsheer jackets in serious rainfall, not through the material but in at the neck which then makes it's way down your front (without you noticing) and into your crotch (very noticeable). If it had a storm collar ala the HG Voyager, Cruise and Master IV it would probably be ideal.

Cuffs are another potential weak point, you need to have your gloves tucked up inside otherwise the water drainage between the outer and the waterproof layer will just fill up your gloves in a matter of minutes.

Having read about the failure of the Aerostitch after 90 mins I'm beginning to think a two piece would be the better solution.

That is great news.
I've coveted one of these suits for some time. Tried to buy one earlier this year but was told that it was discontinued and the only 3XL in Europe was in white.
Had it sent to my local spidi dealer Where I was able to try it on.
This is one hell of a piece of kit. Well made and totally up to the job of my winter long distance commute.
However, in white it looked too much like a Star wars storm trooper. Plus it wouldn't have stayed very white for very long in a English motorway winter.
Great news if its available in black again. I will definately be having one.

Unfortunately they won't. It was them who gave me the above information and added

Blowzorn, how does the sizing work? I'm 6'3" and worried that a large enough length in the legs will mean a gigantic waist! Also, where did you get yours delivered to. I assume they didn't mind ordering with no guarantee of a sale?

I'm 6' with a 32' leg and of ample girth. I tried the Admiral on while still wearing my streetguard trousers. I seem to remember there was still plenty of room in the crotch area even with the other pants on.
The dealer was the Rocket centre in Blackburn. I did have to leave a deposit (returnable) for them to get it in. Originally they tried to charge me the postage from Italy but dropped that.
I did find this spidi sizing chart on one of the american sites.

Is this the same Blowzorn I know? Aka 'Dobby the house dwarf'?

Hmm, perhaps a taller person has hacked into your forum account?

Paul.

Who is your Spidi dealer? I've tried asking Dobles but they're quite slow in getting back to me. They assumed that it'd been discontinued and obviously weren't up to date. If they're willing to get them in again, based on your comments and those on ADV Rider I'd definitely have one on the condition it fit properly.

Woohoo! I take it all back about Dobles. They rang me Monday to say they'd got one in for me to try which I thought was odd as I'd only asked them whether they'd require a deposit. Anyway, apparently two people had asked about them in the same week so they'd decided to get one in rather than ask for a deposit. The helpful chap (Nick) who sorted it all out said that if there was serious interest then they'd do their best to get more in but that they were quite hard to get hold of he thought.

Can't give any feedback on it as I've yet to wear it on the bike other sitting outside the shop on it. It makes me look more like a teletubby than an admiral too but as long as it keeps me warm and dry I don't care.

That's great to hear.
Have you tried it out yet in all this foul weather.

Please tell more. :thumb

Nope - but a mate of mine just ordered (and promptly returned) the Aerostitch from America - reason being the zip (similar to the one in this suit) had no 'baffle' on the inside - when he queried Aerostitch re its waterproof protection all they could gaurantee was "perhaps an hours rain sir before it get through."

Your talking of a suit valued at £500+ that's not waterproof.

Suggest you look what's behind the zip to start with and see if it will allow water in.

Other than that it looks a fine piece of kit - how will that colour look after a winter of riding on the crap filled roads of the UK???

Been looking at a range of similar suits. Have alook at post 18 on the link below. Both sites and suits seem to be waterproof the Spidi says 100% waterproof

I have. It has leaked on me once :( A small amount by the crotch and by my left knee (where the zip runs). I spoke to Dobles and they've ordered me a new one to swap with the one I've got when it arrives. That was after 5 hours in torrential rain up and down the M3/M27 if that's any consolation and the leak was tiny, a small damp patch on my jeans (cue piss taking) rather than soaking. They assured me it was a fault with the zip so I couldn't be happier with the customer service.

Anyway, other than that it's great. Very comfy, warm 'cause obviously there's no gaps between the trousers and jacket for the wind to whistle up. It's got acres of pockets both inside and out. The HUGE zip takes a bit of getting used to. It's quite a rigid beast so where your body bends i.e. at the knee and hip (funnily enough where the leaks were which has worried me a bit), the zip can dig in a little bit but a bit of adjustment before setting off and it's perfectly comfortable.

I'm really happy with it. I've replaced a Rukka jacket and trousers with it so the cost would have been about the same if not more. Also, it's got hard armour which the Rukka didn't have and I'm not sure whether that's good or not but it was a surprise when I tried it on. All in all though I really like it.

Couldn't wait for your report

So rang Doble this morning and ordered one.

Interesting to hear about the leaky zip.
It was the zip that attracted me to this garment because it was the same as used in dry suits.
Anyway, good to see Spidi and Doble aftersale service is top notch.

They've quoted upto 2 weeks for delivery..... So right in time for the forcast cold spell.
