Spitfire over the garden

This one sounded like a Griffon - not as instantly recognisable (emotional) as a Merlin, but great to have one pass low over the garden on a sunny day :)
There is/was a Griffon powered clipped wing (MKIV?) Spitfire from the Shuttleworth collection based at Old Warden but I don’t recall seeing it this year. I’m lucky enough to often have their planes overhead practicing for displays.

2 weekends ago, there were a pair of Spitfires providing rides, flying at Headcorn aerodrome, Ashford, Kent.
(Apologies for the poor resolution from camera 'phone).

Saw this yesterday at Compton Abbas Airfield. Same reg as yours 👍

Love the sound of the engine as it flys by - unmistakable.

Unmistakable, just like the sound of a BMW boxer twin riding up the road.

There was an early evening flying show at Duxford on Saturday. The plane is probably on the way home. Is there a more evocative sound then that of the Merlin? Not to me.
That must be why then - we are between Duxford and Shuttleworth, so old planes are often in the skys but this was special as it was right overhead.
Little Gransden is a stones throw away so most weekends in the Summer we get treated so a free stunt show by Mark Jeffereies and his friends.

6.50pm this evening, heard what sounded very much like a Merlin engined plane doing 'gentle' areobatics went out in the garden to take a gander and caught a glimpse of what looked very much like a Spitfire. There is some sort of show at Shuttleworth this weekend so maybe the Merlin engined planes can fly again?

As a guy once said to my friend while watching a Spit flypass
"I dont know if I want to salute, cry or have a wank"
I’m lucky, just enjoy it, just as well, they fly over our office regularly.

It's amazing to think that back in the day, 16 year old's were flying these things along with their 'brothers' in the Lancaster bombers.........could many 16 year old's do that today........now you have to be trained for many years!

They were much simpler machines than todays crazy complex things.
