Is it just me or does anyone have the same problem of slashing petrol out of the fuel tank hole over the seat area on the F650GS or F800GS when filling up?:nenau

I've found it does happen every now and then, I make a point of looking now when filling up my 800 GS because you do have to fiddle with the nozzle a bit to stop it splashing out

Believe it or not it much easier and less messy if you fill the bike while standing on the opposite side of the bike to the fuel filler ... another strange but true fact.

I had this problem too, but where I live most of the fuel stations have a rubber plastic disk thing on the nozzle of the fuel pump, thi is moveable, so I can push this down the nozzle so it almost seals the fuel cap, this was it doesn't piss all over my seat :-)

Yup. Instead of ramming the nozzle in up to the hilt and pull it out a bit and watch it going in... :eek

sounds a bit rude that...

shall I tell you how I put petrol in my bike too? :D

Must be something to do with you being in the southern hemishpere and liquids going down (plug)holes the opposite way to that in the northern hemisphere....;)

Petrol coated kit

Had a nightmare with this in Europe for my recent trip to Turkey. Most petrol stations down that way have pump attendants, needless to say my seat, plastic bodywork, pannier, tent, bed roll all got a coating of unleaded at some point during the trip.:blast

You try telling a Turkish pump attendant with no english to pull it out a bit. Gave up in the end.

I noticed it on a F800GS test ride. Mentioned it to the BMW Sales guy who blamed it onto the pump and said no way was it the bike :-)

Bought an F800GS since and yep... it slashes.

I have had the same problem..thought it was me being a dumb brum, but feel happier knowing i am not alone. Will try the standing on the opposite side next time i fill up.

I found the same - either fill up standing on the opposite side, or fill standing near the handlebars and facing the rear of the bike.

Also, some stations seem worse than others - Asda is a pain, Tesco I didn't have a problem...
