Spotlights at MOT time

Just booked the GSA in for it's first MOT and had the thought that my spotlights, wired to come on with the full beam, may not be legal and lead to a 'fail'.

Would appreciate if anyone knows about these things as I couldn't find anything on the web????

Asked a MOT tester the same thing last year and he said it didnt matter but suggested if I had any doubt I take the fuse out. Isugest you ring the place your taking it and ask them.

Thats what I thought, it goes to show its all down to the tester really. Thats why I suggest calling the bloke whos doing it.

If fitted, must be working. But I'm sure he cannot make any judgements about position, legality or owt else under the C & U regs.

i removed my spots for the mot and it would have failed for sticking out boby work (the lightbar) if i had not tapped an old inner tube over the ends

Aux lights do not fall into mot so are not required to work as a testable item. Hope this helps

Only lights on dip beam are tested for aim /beam pattern & light colour, (must only show white or yellow) & front high beam must work & be white / yellow colour

Do not confuse the MOT test with legal requirement to use a vehicle on the road.

The MOT test only covers items which are in the MOT testers manual. If its not in the manual they can't test it. It does not matter if if your spotlights work or not, or even of they are fitted in an illegal position or have 200 watt bulbs. The fact that it may be illegal to USE them on road has nothing to do with the MOT test and testing spotlights is not part of the test.

Is the dip beam angle tested as part of the MOT as I left my headlight in the continental position on my R1100S. Still passed mind.

Ive got fogs and main beam spots fitted and never had a problem with the MOT, this year, however the guy at the mot centre did check the aim of them just to make sure they were ok.
Never had any problem with extra lights

I have a set of fogs which are permantly on with dip beam and also a set of ff50s working with full beam.

Do my fogs have to have a switch for the MOT?

I think an illuminating switch is required but I'm no expert.
