Spotlights shouldn`t be wired to come on with dip beam. :rob :rob

Nor simply by themselves. :rob

they're not:P

on with the sidelights.

the police were impressed with them, when err, i got done for speeding tonight.

they weren't even bothered by me wearing an ex-police hi-viz jacket, complete with blue and white checks.:augie

Aimed low as driving lights. :P

police didn't seem bothered tonight with the lights, when i was done for speeding tonight:augie (44 in a 30)

I said to the copper, "What do you think of my ex-police Hi-viz jacket complete with blue and white checks?"

"Interesting, where did you get it?"

"off the internet"

"OK, not bothered"

define the difference between spot lights, and driving lights / fog lights. i would have thought it was to do with the aim? doubt very much if the average copper knows, or cares?

See what happens at next years MOT, in the shop owned by my mate.:augie

Foglights have a well defined cut-off to the beam pattern, like the shape of the letter D but obviously with the flat bit to the top. Spots pattern is more like an O but with quite a lot of bleed.

fog lights also have to be mounted below a certain level. Its a long time ago so I cant rmember what it is.

Vertical Maximum height above the ground-1200mm

Alignment: To the front and so aimed that the upper edge of the beam is, as near as practicable, 3 per cent below the horizontal when the vehicle is at its kerbside weight and has a weight of 75 kg on the driver's seat

When I fitted my Hella D'sE to my GS, I had them wired up to a separate switch so I could have them on or off when I wanted. Was I bothered about having them wired to main or sidelights etc ? Nope. It's not as if they are tested during an MOT, so why worry about it ?

I did have an old guy come up to me one day (in a B&Q carpark) who asked me about them. He seemed very interested in the lights but then went on to point out what's been said by others above and told me he was an ex cop. I pointed out that he could go and mind his own business and he wasn't a cop any more.

Cant see the point in that, you have to dip them at the same time as the main beam so you would have to be a very silly old bugger to give yourself two dip switches to operate, which is all you are achieving.

I have mounted my LEDs on the bars, on the Barkbuster fixings. and they are switched separately, they either come on with the main beam or they are off.

I've fitted a pair to my 100RT as well, they come on with the main beam. They are now 12 watts, so even brighter. I would say they are just as good / bright as Hid lights.

But that's the thing, I didn't have to dip them with the main beam. They were on when I wanted them to be on.

So without proving to the world what a numpty I am :blast
Is it illegal to have driving lights on with just my parklight
Or are they just an addition to the main beam

It's not.
Auxillary light reg's for bikes are vague at best.
Generally as long as they do not dazzle you'll pass an MOT
