Starting to think about getting the classics that don't go out in the winter ready for the spring and better weather with cleaner roads
Anyone else thinking about getting their machines ready for the better weather?

I bloody hope so..... It was -14 here at 6am,looking for a high -8..... Very cool bikes by the way......

For me, the season starts with "The Bristol Classic Show" at Shepton Mallet. I'm intending to take the 1150GSA down on Friday 7th, stay with a pal in Trowbridge, do the show on Saturday 8th and ride back to Edinburgh that evening/night.

Unless its snowing - when I'll use a car :blast.

I used to do the two-way run on the Saturday (940 miles). I must be getting old :rob.

I have booked a couple of Classic events so the '58 Ariel 'VH' will be getting fettled shortly (must re-spray the tank).

The 1931 Panther project is progressing slowly, but it will be at least another year before its on the road.

Seeing the bikes at Shepton usually inspires me to get on with the bike preparation :thumb.

Bob.

The Ariel and Panther sound interesting projects Bob.
I am at the Bristol Classic show Saturday and Sunday. My Nimbus will be on the North Devon Classic British (and Danish) M/C club stand. Maybe see you there :beerjug:

I'll be on the Taunton Classic Club stand with CBX1000 and NSU Suoermax. Don't forget to say hello. I might be able to rustle up a cuppa too! :thumb2

Triumph TR7v

Just got the tank etc back from the painters today.
couldn't resist just resting them on the bike to see what they looked like.

Poor pictures due to limited space

Hopefully will be complete next week end.

I grew up in the Taunton area (lived 12 miles to the east at Isle Abbotts). I was a member of the Taunton M/C Club in the late '60s :augie.

I'll stop by :thumb.

Weather not looking too bad at the moment.

I received an e-mail from the organisers today saying that it was still on - despite the doom & gloom weather forecast :D.

Well, I made it on the 1150GSA on Friday 7th, it was very foggy & slippery in Scotland at 05:30 - I almost binned it on my driveway setting out but managed to control the slide  . I was taking it very easy after that until I got south of Carlisle.

I stayed with friends in Trowbridge on Friday then went to the show on Saturday. It was wet and blustery which put some people off as it wasn't as busy as usual, still quite a crush in the main halls though.

'Humbug' should have been on the Taunton & District Classic MC Club stand here:

Unfortunately he didn't make it as he lives on the Somerset levels, the water had risen one metre overnight and his home was in danger of flooding. I sincerely hope that he and his family are OK and that his home is safe, worrying times for people down there.

I grew up 12 miles from Taunton in a village called Isle Abbotts, the gentleman in the picture lives in the next village and knows many of the characters that I used to knock about with in the '60s. He tells me that 'my' village is under water, something that hadn't happened during the 40 years that my parents lived there.

Later in the day I found the North Devon British MC Club stand where I met 'Devon' proudly displaying his Nimbus (1948, 4-cylinder, 750cc if my memory is correct):

We had a long chat and we may meet up later in the year when he heads to the Shetland Islands on a Classic bike!

As usual there were some stunning bikes on display and I'll put up a load of pictures under a different thread. In the meantime, if anyone wants to see the pics my Photobucket file is public here:

I left the Showground at 17:15hrs and headed home. It was dark, wet and very windy but the traffic wasn't bad on the M4, M5, M6, M74 and I got home at 01:10, cold, wet, tired & sore with wrestling the thing in the gales for 8 hours. Today I have a head full of cotton wool from the wind roar - despite having ear plugs and a decent helmet (BMW System 5).

Its my own fault - there is quite a lot of 'sail area' on the Adventure :D:

So the season has started, now to get on with my 'classic' restorations with renewed vigour :thumb.

Bob.

That was a proper day out. Thanks for posting Bob.

+1 and some nice pictures from the show.

It was a pleasure to meet you Bob and hopefully I can call in and scrounge a coffee and a look at your Bikes when I pass by in June if you aren't busy.

Certainly and epic ride down and back for you :beerjug: I bet you slept well when you finally got home and hit your bed :D

Andy,

I'll be delighted to see you at the "Forth Bridge Coffee Stop" in June. I have PMd you my contact details.

My house is becomming known to Ariel Owners' Club members as well - coffee & biscuits always available :thumb.

There are 11 houses at the farm and three of us have Classic bikes (and cars, and 4x4s and boats . . and so on). So there's more than just my bikes to see here :D.

See you in June.

An aside . . Does anyone know how 'Humbug' is getting on ??? The water was rising around his house and he was getting worried, I hope all is well.

Bob.

Bob.

He posted that the house is flooding, as is his new workshop. Had a big truck to move out most of his bikes and furniture is either raised on bricks or upstairs. Water levels still rising.

I heard . . Andy (Devon) gave me an update :blast.

Bad news, it must be dreadful, I hope the water recedes quickly and the damage isn't too bad.

Best wishes to Andy (Humbug) and Paula.

Bob.

Got one of my favourite old bikes ready for the road; handy not having to worry about MOTs or paying for tax on pre 1960 stuff. Changed all the oils including the stuff in the forks. I might try a few miles this weekend what with the good weather forecast :)
