Stainless nut and bolt kits

Mate of mine just bought 1.5 tons of mixed metric stainless nuts and bolts for £90 - i'm sure he will let you rummage through them

What would the post & packing be on that? Would you have enough spit for the stamps?

Vern,

How much just for the brake disc bolts (front & rear)? I've already replaced various bolts which have tarnished and the main ones I need to replace now are the disc bolts. I appreciate your caveat on them and would prefer the stronger version but would be happy with the same ones you use.

Cheers,

Having seen some bags of Vern's bolts last night I'm in for a set. I'll save you the postage by picking them up one Tues. Evening.

Let me know when though cos if it's pissing down I'll pack the waterproofs next time. Forgot last night and am still drying out.

Pleased to note Sidi Couriers are waterproof, they didn't let any water out at all - just filled up as water ran down inside!!

Here's what I'll do!

I'm making a great long list of all the nuts and bolts, and where they go, and then making up a set of instructions where to put them (yes, I've been very tempted!) I won't just send a bucket of bolts, as you'd never find out where they go, but I'm going to put them in bags of 30-40 fasteners, to make it easier to do the job. I can price up some of the bags seperatly, so you can buy what you want, and not have any left over. Now how does that sound, will you all be happy with that?

Mike O, they're all made of A2 or A4 stainless steel, A2 is a bit weaker than HT steel, A4 a bit stronger, does that help:confused:

Vern,

As you know (:D) I know nothing about these things. However the below is a quote from ADVRider, which may be of interest - it was in reply to a guy who'd had problems with SS fasteners on his bike in the past.

Might want to check the recipe for the stainless you've been using, Mully. As a general rule of thumb, type 304 stainless is a fairly inexpensive grade of stainless ...but it doesn't work as well as you might like in certain threaded applications (threads are brittle).

A better SS solution would be type 316, particularly for threaded applications. It also happens to have better corrosion resistance properties compared to 304 for what a m/c fastener would likely be exposed to.

The problem? 316 is usually about 3x the cost of 304 and as a result it's not often what you buy.

If Vern is still around, I wonder whether there are any kits still to be had from him (s/less steel fasteners). I need quite a few for my recently aquired 1150GS !!!

Failing that, I read in another thread the opinion on Desmo parts, is it worth going for them?

So, Vern, if you are around, can you either post a message here or pm me
