What should I expect to pay for supply and fitting of standard BM paniers and rail (also will code the locks to the bikes ignition key) to a GS?
I've been quoted by a dealer and want to know if its a fair price.

Cheers.

Before you part with your cash, speak to Vern first. Wish I had:(

I've looked at Verns and all the other aluminium paniers on the market but prefer the looks of the standard black BM ones. If I was considering an extended trip on the bike they would be my 1st choice but for weekend run outs and the odd camping trip the plastic ones will surfice.

Extra capacity

Good value modification if you normally get the LH pannier is to get the "global" lids and get another 6 liters of space in each. And they still don't make it look like a pizza delivery bike.:D

I paid £340 for the panniers & rails fitted to my bike last July, with the locks coded to use the ignition key. I think that's only a saving of about £20-25 on list.

Regards,

Charles

Yep............BMW part and about £150 extra for the 2 Global lids

Don't do It

I wish I hadn't got the BMW panniers, get Verns from the off, if you really insist on BM ones you can have mine, with marakesh Red lids.

Coding the locks to match the ignition key is easy.
When you get the panniers (I have Adventure ones) the barrels come sealed-up in plastic bags with all the parts you need and (English) instructions.
It might take 10-minutes to do the first one but when you know what you are doing it is only about 5-minutes work to do each of the others.

The Black ones are OK for light "shopping" and maybe day rides

+++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++

Streuth, what sort of day rides???? having just migrated from sportsbike land where all that was needed was a baglux alpha bag and a credit card, the standard sized black plaggy paniers are a luxury!, I've also got a touratech tailpack and should be getting 'bagluxed up' shortly. I paid around £300 for my panniers which came fitten on my new Adv.
;)

Hard v Soft the big luggage debate

I spoke to a knowledgeable (spelt right?) sounding guy at Motor Works tel 0845 458 0077 he quoted me £285.00p for a pair of Black panniers which he said were indistinguisable (spelt wright?)
from the genuine article. I've been beating myself up trying to decide whether to go for them or the cheaper soft options like Oxford or similar. If anyones got any hard ones going cheap I may well be interested. tel 07870 803397

Hard all the time!

Once you get used to the convenience of even the plastic panniers I doubt you'll want to go back to the insecure, leaking pain in the ar5e soft option. How much is peace of mind knowing that your luggage is fairly unlikely to get pinched and unlikely to fall off, onto the exhaust into the wheels etc? Really do have a look at someone elses, (with the inner bags) and then make your mind up.

As the 1200 GS appears to use completely different pannier fixings there may be a few sets becoming available shortly.

In fact...... theres a set of genuine with badges and locks, with rails for only £195 in the for sale section, some twonk called Panzer Patrol is selling them :D :D ;) Good nick as well :D

GS Panniers

I have got some for sale in very good condition with bmw frames.

They are in the for sale section.
If interested send me a pm.
