I own a 1150adv, and bought the Starcon advance for it in June. I have had numerous problems with it, most, it has to be said due to my impatient nature trying to do a job quickly rather than well.

But the latest problem has not been caused by me. About 2 weeks ago I bought the bluetooth and remote adapters. When the bluetooth is attached I get a very low level ticking noise, when I attach the remote, the ticking gets sharper and very loud :spitfire . It is incredibly off putting, even with earplugs.

I took it to the company last week, but the problem hasn't been solved. Moving the wires made little difference with the remote and none with the Bluetooth. Also used one of those things you feed the wire through to stop it being effected by other electrical frequencies. Nothing has worked.

Before I take it back, has anyone else experienced this and is there something blindingly obvious I can do to fix it that I am completely missing, because other than this it is a great piece of kit.

I had the same soert of problems when fitting my starcom adv to my GS12 and GS 650. It was a matter of playing with routing of cables, I had allsorts of noises with both bikes and had to reroute cables several times befor I found something that worked. My GS12 was a nightmare. Ended up powering direct from battery with Blue tooth adapter rinning of back light feed. And the cable kept as as far away from other cables and engine. On the other hand i bought my starcom only a month befor yours and had loads of other problems regarding faulty sockets and bike to bike not working geat! (see my other posts) I ended up speaking to company owner telling him i think I have a lemon of a unit and had anough of it and i was ready to put it in bin!

they agreed to change the unit and since then its been great! :thumb

I also have the vol remote and works no problem

Hope this helps

Having the same problem with my starcom so did a search and found this thread.

Fitted my starcom with bluetooth adaptor in the tool roll space on 1200adv and used a plug on the live wires to the accesory socket under the seat.

When ever I connect it up I also get the same sort of engine whine all the time. The cables are no where near anything and yes this is v. annoying.

Did you cure your problem and if so how........

Could be time to go to back to an autocom unit :(

this dosnt sound good(no pun intended) i was gonna order a starcom advance in the next couple of weeks, would the autocom be a better option? ie. easier to set up,better sound quality, less interference.on paper the starcom looked better spec and i prefer its smaller size as space is limited on my bike.has anyone owned/used/reviewed both units? any advice would be appreciated

No experience of the Autocom, but have Starcom with bluetooth which I mounted under the seat. Loads of problems with electical interference. My (non BMW) dealer wanted me to let him mount it in the topbox.....

Also seem to remember one journo (possibly Emma Franklin) saying she had to mount hers in her tank bag to avoid the interference.

The only reason I didn't send mine back immediately is that I had paired it with the Tom Tom Rider, and its arrival exactly coincided with the cradle crashing problems - so I got endlessly bogged down trying to find a single cause for the TTR crashing, and the horrendous static on the starcom, instead of realising that there were two separate problems.
