Sound's daft but I'm having trouble with starting.
When the key is swiched to on the system check is initiated and then clears, no problem.
When I then hit the start button the battery symbol appears on the screen, then disappears. Does every one get the battery symbol at this point?
Thanks for any help.

Great but sometimes mine starts but others I get the dreaded tic tic tic and nothing. This is a new battery due to the same issue on the old one.
Cheers

There are several problems that could cause this behaviour.

The new battery could be duff, but it's unlikely. Just don't assume that new parts are always perfect.

The charging circuit could be faulty and you're not using an Optimate or similar to top up the charge overnight. This would mean that the overall level of charge in the battery is dropping every time you start it. I guess that, as you've got a 1200, you're aware that you can't just use any old charger in the accessory socket?

The connections from the battery to the earth point and the starter need to be in good condition. Check and clean both ends of all cables

The starter solenoid itself could be faulty. The tick noise is the solenoid trying to engage the starter but nothing's happening. The solenoid as an electrically controlled switch that is turned on when you apply power, so for half an amp or so through the switch under your thumb, you can control 200 amps through the starter. Sometimes a tap with the end of a spanner can help. I do mean a tap, not a wallop

There could be a problem with the starter or the wiring to the starter. Again, check the condition of all wires and connections.

Not sure if it works on bikes, but I sometimes find that rocking cars forward whilst in gear moves some of the cogs that the starter engages with, and can make the difference between the starter jamming or succeeding in turning the engine over. A brisk tap with a socket bar on the starter body can sometimes help this as well.

had a similar problem last weekend. rode bike for 50 miles, parked up, minutes later had to shift the bike. turnt key.click click etc.
recovery came out the next morning, started bike , set off to dealer who could not find a fault??? replaced battery just in case. bike 8 weeks old. 1400 miles on the clock :(

I had the battery replaced on my 05GS after about 5 months. Prior to that I had a couple of occasions of it failing to start despite riding it every day for work and keeping the battery topped up with the Optimate. Starting has been fine since (bet I regret saying that now :blast )
The battery symbol always stays on briefly after starting though - and does the same thing on my 12KR.
