My laptop won't go through the start up procedure. It says there is a disk error. Windows goes through the disk repair procedure and tells me no faults found. It then goes back to can't start up because of a disk error. Is there anything else I can try or is it a PC World repair job? :(

Which laptop is it, and what is the error message?

When you did the Windows disk repair did you boot from a CD?

I'm wondering if the machine has decided to boot only from CDs for some reason.

It's a Compaq laptop but whilst I've been on here it's run through the Windows disk repair thing and it's started up. If it happens again I'll make a note of the error code. Thanks for responding :thumb2

If you have any doubts about the disk, can I suggest you back it up? If you start to get disk errors where none happened before, that might be a warning.

If you go into the properties menu for the disk, find the tools and run error checking with surface testing, it might take some time, but should give you a better idea about the health of the disk.
