My r1150gs has a problem with the starter button quite often when the startbutton is pressed nothing happens. I have found that if I move the kill switch off/on a couple of times then it works.
I am thinking that the start button is faulty but before I go pulling it apart.

Has anyone else had this problem?
Is it the handle bar switch thats at fault?
Is it solid state or can I take it apart and clean contacts etc?

Any advice or experiences from you guys would be apreciated.
Just a note on useage the bike gets used year round so the switch is probably full of water and road salt:(

I think you've answered your own question there Artman......

Yes, they can be taken apart and cleaned- I'm sure someone will be a long soon to post a nice exploded diagram for you.................

thanks for the info Fanum I now have another problem seem my latest thread.

Hi Artman,

You can take the switch apart & replace it/clean it up. Mine was broken some years ago when trail riding & I picked up a s/h cluster to strip out the starter switch & replace it. I found that there was a screw, behind a sticker, around the back side of the switches - took me ages to figure out why I couldn't split the casing. I hope this info makes it a bit easier for you 'coz it took me about an hour to figure it out
