My bike had sometimes needed 2 or 3 pushes of the button to click and start so I changed the battery as its 6 years old but it still happens, less often but still there. Anyone know whether its a sticking starter or where to look?

Any ideas or photos?

Thanks Nick

My new (reconditioned) starter is not as good hot as it is when cold. It seems to be a feature.

Test it with jump leads. If it's better you need a better battery. If its the same you need a new starter.

Batteru

Batterys new bendy and if I hit the starter with a mallet it stops clicking and slowly turns the engine and it fires up.
Looks like I need to remove the starter motor now.
Will search Youtube for how to, next.

Check wires to starter and earth before removing starter. If you bring a jump lead from the positave terminal on battery to terminal on starter it will tell you if the lead is bad. MAKE SURE BIKE IS NOT IN GEAR. This bypasses every safety cut out. JJH

If its the starter .

And a Valeo, I have a brand new brush pack used for 5 starts max available

(i bought a recon unit in the end)

When you try jump leads clip to battery terminals then repeat with earth clipped to an engine bolt (bare metal).
