My twin cam late 2011 has developed a starting issue, it sometimes starts then doesn’t.

Doesn't seem to matter the orientation of the handlebars as I had been searching and do the potential for a broken wire.

It does have the fob alarm that my previous bikes haven’t had. I’m up on the islands so thinking first thing is get it on the GS911 and see what’s coming up. However maybe removing this alarm might be a good move.

Any thoughts on what to look at and check?

Is the ring under the barrel a potential?

Cheers
Mark

If the ring antenna does not see the key you will get EWS showing in the kombi

EWS visible = no start
EWS not visible = start

Thanks folks. It’s odd, no EWS message and starter does click. Battery is good and connections are fine from what I can see.

Will investigate further when I get back home.

Thanks
Mark

You are not being very helpful.

what does ”Starter clicks” mean?

When you press the start button, do you sometimes get the starter motor to turn over the engine and the bike starts.

On other occasions the starter motor just clicks and doesn’t turn over the engine.

Yes, sorry so each time it seems to turn the starter no issues but just won’t start. So starter runs ok but bike won’t start.

Plenty fuel, my thinking is immobiliser possibly if this stops spark or fuel delivery?

Side stand switch, clutch micro switch, can stop starting if i recall

Also water in the fuel lines. You can take off the pipe at the injectors and turn the ign on - the pump runs for a few seconds and catches the fuel in a carefully-placed container. If it is a glass one you can see if there was any gloop in it...Do both sides.
