New battery 18 months ago. Bike hasn't been used for 6 months but has been on a trickle charger over winter
Took it for MoT and got back and the starter went clunk, the clock reset itself, and I had to push it into the garage.
I did 200 miles yesterday, and everytime I stopped I get a flat battery sound, the clock resets, yet the second time I press the starter it spins enough to start.
I've just been down the garage, and tried to start it and it started 10 times without error. The battery voltage is 12.96 and up to 14.0 engine running with no load.
Any suggestions please? I'm wondering if the starter is at fault and is drawing too much energy from the system.

Thanks

If it started 10 times without error, just keep riding it.

A while ago, when I turned mine off, the clock reset, if I reset it and started the bike, it would zero. Rode it for a while and the problem went.:D

Thanks everyone
FYI its a 1150GS 2001 version. From your comments I'll clean the whole lot from the battery downwards and pop some new brushes in the starter when I clean it.

Thanks again

Best year for 1150's! especially yellow ones!

I reckon magnets have fallen off in the starter, do you have tongs to check current drawn

Make sure all the conections at the battery and starter are clean and tight. Simple but often overlooked.

Check volts across battery terminals while she's trying to start. Below 9 volts or so & battery's f*cked. Off-load voltage is meaningless, 14 volts with engine running tells me your alternator's OK.

HTH :D

Measure the battery voltage and the put your headlights on for a couple of minutes. If the battery cannot hold the charge it will drop substantially. This could help you rule out the starter.

Tongs
