Steering alignment R1150 GSA

Hi,

Just took the bike out for a pre MOT checkride, everything seems fine now except the steering alignment. I fitted new handlebars as the former were bent & I thought that would cure the not quite right feel of the font end. However I can now see that the yoke is a few degree's off when you look down to the fork crown. There is no obvious signs of bent forks, but I havent had them inspected. When you are riding along in a straight line the bars are just a bit facing to the right. Now I'm still getting to grips with Telelever front ends so excuse my ignorance on the subject but I was wondering if it could be that the yoke has been forced around a bit. Is it it possible to undo the yoke top bolt & move it a round a few degrees to the left (Is it splined on the top? )

Failing that what other things should I try?

Just had to re-align my own bike.It's virtually the same thing as when you straightened out your pushbikes forks as a kid.
On centrestand,loosen nearside axle clamp bolt,then loosen axle to allow movement,then offside axle clamp.then the 4 lower yoke bolts.
You can now align the bars in relation to the wheel.
Spin the front wheel to make sure it's not sticking,then tighten/torque up the bolts starting at the bottom.
Do road test to check alignment.You may have to readjust;depending on how good your eye is.

I have not had mine fully to bits yet but its surprising how floppy the whole thing is with just one stanchion nut removed (look at the fork seal replacement thread) perhaps if you slacken a lot of fastenings , wheel pinch bolts etc then give the thing a good wobble and bounce then re-torque it all it might end up the right shape.

Cheers for the replys so far, will have to give that a go in the morning. MOT test tomorrow afternoon so hopefully I can sort it in time. I did do a fork seal change this morning, only did the left side fork leg as it was leaking, I just wonder if I knocked things out of alignment then? I'm sure when I first got the bike it was only the bars that were bent out of line.

Anyone no how much tolerance is allowed by the MOT place for alignment issue's?

Well I tried the method as described by Colban & it worked a treat. I noticed that the lower mudguard was out of alignment with the wheel before & thought it was just bent a bit. But by lining up the wheel with the mudguard it seems bang on. Had to redo it once as the fork lip which sits against the crown had dropped a few mm on both sides, adjusted back & it's perfect.

Thanks for your help on that one, will see what the MOT guy makes of it....... Fingers crossed.
