Stella Six Pack

There were a host of bikes and bikes at the campsite at 2500m

A Britsh Tuono, with TKC's on

A very simple SWM Trials bike, set against the lac and homage to my first XR250, I used to ride 20 years ago

So, after we made the campsite, it was time to scale as far up as we could up the Col Sommelier

I got up to about 2670m with Tom and Micky, whilst the other 4 made the top to about 2800m

Views were stunning up there

Sunday, most decided to have a day off the bikes and so we mooched about, i had a swim in the muncipal pool, whilst John and Decky had a run to Alpe D'Huez and others watched MotoGP or went for an afternoon beer

Plans were made for the last week and Germany got the nod, Malc planned a route for the 460 mile run and by necessity French motorways would need to be used

On Monday we bade farewell to our Irish friends

Destination was Sud Schwarzwald to a hotel familiar to all of us, for 3 nights

It was a long, hot and hard day...........................but it was well worth it

Best road of the day was the sublime Col du Galibier near Briancon

Long Tom, JB and myself stayed here. Son Martyn (1150GSA) Mr Smooth (1200GSA) and the Oirish contingent of Dec and Somclan (F650GS Dakars) went the extra km to the snow line :JB

So far so good JB .... keep it clean

After the long haul, to Germany we had a few days mooching - visiting Touratech and taking in the splendid Schwarzwald roads, where the tarmac never ends and all the bends are constant radius

I never tire of Black Forest views like this

On the last night, the restaurant at our hotel was closed (day off), so the owner arranged for another hotel to accomodate us and the treat was a horse & carriage to transport us the 3miles there, courtesy of our hotelier

It was one of the trip highlights, which took us on road, then offroad across fields and through some forest trails

Typical of the German hospitality

Wending our way back to the ferry, we finished off with a couple of nights in the Eifels, near the Mosel to round off a wonderful trip, in great company

My rider's view the trip.....................a perfect GS cockpit for me and the bike performed seamlessly

Nice one JB.....finally written it eh? :thumb

Yup,the Col du Galibier is superb....it's usually on my 'way in' to Bardonecchia.

So you went to the Stella without 'doing the Stella' on the Sunday?

No badges??? :eek

Even if you don't need no steenking badges, that's a shame, amigos.

Great report and photo's JB and thanks for not mentioning my slight detour on the way to the Schwarzwald.

Our base for the next 2 nights was just under Les Arcs at Peisey Nancroix, a wonderful alpine village full of charm and character

The hotel was Chalet La Tarine http://www.latarine.com/en_index.htm?lang=fr

A lovely hotel, with spectacular views, rooms, an outdoor terrace and good parking for bikes

On Thurs night we were lucky to have a singer, to entertain us and very good he was too, made for a very relaxing evening

We were there 2 weeks ago, grand place, did you manage to go and see the Notre Dame des Vernettes its the little church just out of the village.

Nice report JB.
It appears we crossed paths as we met a some of your group on the Col.
Were you on this corner?

Some your group in this one

Stopped by the snow but pleased for our first attempt
