Hi all, I'm looking at headlamp protection for my GS Te, not a lover of the grill type, and heard the plastic ones create shadows, so I've been looking at the "stick on" ones. Anyone fitted one, how good? Pitfalls? Your thought appreciated :)

Got one on mine, no problems at all. It's not the big BMW thing, I think I got it from powerbronze. It's cut to the shape of the headlight lense and sticks on with a few plastic Velcro type fixings.
Dead easy for cleaning bugs off.

I've got one of these - https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/322976601703

Easy to apply - I used a heat gun to gently soften it to stick onto the headlight lens but a hair dryer will do the same. It's inexpensive, does the sjob and best of all, is unobtrusive. According to the instruction it can be removed without damge to the headlight

I'd only been on a few months but so far so good

I have one from Mark Hooton fitted - no sign of any shadows.
I feel that this will stop a big hit from debris - a stickon will only hold the broken bits together.
Have you seen the price of an LED headlight recently?

I got one of those. Made a balls of putting it on. Ended in the bin. I think if you took your time and used heat it would be fine.

Thank you chaps, fitting one later:)
Yes ! The price of the unit is mind blowing!!

Forgot to mention, don’t take my bike off road, and have a front rack fitted, so I don’t think I can have a more substantial (clear plastic/whatever) with the rack fitted.

Don't like the one with the Velcro, the Velcro spoils it. I know they're expensive but if you want to take it off I think Touratech do a pop off one.
Haven't got anything on my bike but I can see the benefit of having one that fits away from the glass to one that's stuck on the glass.

Agree mind blowing and that plastic stick on will not do much against a fair size pebble.

I guess it's a question of price versus the effectiveness of what you choose. I decided that I didn't like the look of the more heavy duty guards and certsinly didn't like the price. I also thought that the stick on plastic screen would offer a good deal of protection against most of the muck which hits the headlight and also against most of the pebbles etc. I also factored into my decisin the fact that I've ridden for years and years and never had a headlight smashed (and don't know anyone who has).

The decision is about form v function v cost and I'm pleased with my choice - perhaps I'm taking a chance but I've gone some way toward reducing the risk and now I'll have to keep my fingers crossed

Must agree never had a headlight on any bike smashed either, but at a 1000 quid for a led light, I got clay feet and bought some protection.

Also got one of these on my LC-- it's been on approx 18 months now with no problems, no discolouration, no shadows, can't tell it's there.
They are quite thick and the blurb on the website claims it is very effective at preventing damage from stones etc. I have also fitted a Cymarc protector to catch anything bigger than road chippings. So far so good...
