Hi Folks,
I've just replaced the fork seals on my R80 Rt mono and renewed the oil. they seem to work ok when pumped up and down but on the road on normal road surfaces they are sticking and giving me a rough ride. Is this something that will wear back to normal? I did all the rotating stantions and tightening things in the order suggested in my Haynes manual. Any ideas or reassurances?

I wouldnt have rotated the stations - after a few years they can end up slightly banana shaped and rotating them will cause problems.

Also the top cap on the fork stem on my bike has loosened slightly a couple of times and this shows up as fork stiction.

Usually because I cant get the correct torque with the tool kit spanner and I am too lazy to remove the bars and get a socket and torque wrench on it.

Try loosening the fork pinch bolts and bouncing her up and down a few times..then re-tighten.

Loosen all the bolts you've undone and do as kenny suggests above.

What's happened is called "trapped stresses".

from my experience(1992 r100gs owned from new 267 000 km's)you should notice sticky forks if you pump up and down.

on the road, if the bike seems rough I would have to ask how much oil you put in?

25 ml too much will make it rough over small bumps but still soak up undulating roads.

I can't remember the correct amount as I got different springs so different amount.

Paul.
