Sticky seats!

Argh..........I've got a sticky seat! Got my Sargent seat up for sale and I can't get the b****y thing off! The key is either not turning fully in the lock or the catch is just not disengaging.

Has anyone got any advice about getting it off? I can't see anyway way of accessing the locking mechanism from the underneath


If I can get it off I'll put it on the forum for sale at a very nice price

Put some weight (ie lean on it) on the seat where the catch is to take the load off said catch! The key should then turn a bit further and hey presto!

Give the opposite side of the seat a (fairly hefty)wiggle as you turn the key - works for me

Put the key in, start to twist it, not too hard. Then hit the seat (a sharp tap)near the key, while still turning the key. This will release the tension on the locking tab. Shown this by my dealer for a sticky seat.

Mine does the same just add a little downward pressure then turn the key.

Mines was the same until I was advised by the dealer to give the back of the seat a wack at the same time as rotating the key and it pops off no trouble at all.

I used to have the same problem, you might have to go as far as to kneel on the back of the seat, or try pushing it back or forward at the same time. Just don't try to force the key round too hard.

Mines the same in the sickey staks,
juat have to give a whack whilst turning the key, should feel the key turn more as you hit the seat and then it comes off no probs,
i have more trouble getting the fecking thing back on!

Well I tried all of your tips and it still wouldn't budge! Was driving past my local dealer this morning and popped into the workshop. They'd had a GS in last week with the same problem and the trick is to reach up under the offside frame ( between the plastic trim and frame) and if your fingers long enough, hook it over the locking bar and pull down with some pressure on the seat. Otherwise use a bent bit of metal.
And it worked!
