Used my heated grips on full for the first time yesterday during a run to Dundee and back in heavy rain but noticed that after a while the throttle gets sticky i.e. no return when released. Has anyone else come across this problem?

sticky throttle

move the whole throttle assy inwards away from the bar end weight and this will stop it sticking when hot
it expands when hot and catches on bar end

good luck

Is a known problem with BMW's from a few years ago and, if I recall, easily fixed by the dealer adjusting the clearances at the ends of the handgrip to provide expansion room for the heated grips against the bars.

My 1150 does this since I repaired my heated grips. Bit disconcerting sometimes. I have lessened the effect by adjusting the handguard thingy:augie

Plenty of folks on here seen it before including myself.

I fixed mine by undoing the bar end weight and putting a thin copper washer beneath it as a packing spacer to allow a bit more clearance on the throttle grip when it expands with the heating on.

How does one do that then? Looks fairly solid and I don't want to break it!

two minute job.

Losen wing mirror clamp and slide along.
Then undo small plastic cover on the "rear side" of the switch assembly ( 2 small screws), remove the cover and there's a large chromed screw.
Loosen large screw and shuffle the switch gear along so leaving a small gap between switch gear and bar end weight, tighten big screw. Then move wing mirror mount back next to switch gear and tighten.

Perfectly timed tread!

Just Got back from Malvern and mine started doing it in the rain on the way down.

Seemed like free cruise control until you attempt a gear change and made islands on tkc's in the wet a interesting affair

Would have asked somebody at malvern doo but new the answer would be

a) you should have brought a 1150
b) my 1150 never did that
c) unclear drunken rambling

So when Ive uncover my bike from all the mud ill get it sorted.

Cheers:thumb
