Stolen GS 1200s in London

The alarm was going off on that bike so I'm assuming that the bod on the scooter washing pushing the GSA from the rear with his foot?

Whats the BMW alarm like? Just got quoted about £300 for one installed. is it any good? Worth using in London, or better to have mechanical lock?

Alarms are a Waist of money as no body takes any interest, spend the money on biketrac at least this way you got more chance getting your bike back and you can track it right to the thief's and dish out some revenge 🤕 also in the event it's moved your get a txt message instantly.

The BMW alarm just isn't loud enough, it should do permanent damage to any bike thieves hearing. Then it would be worth having.

Didn't look like the owner even left the steering lock on, even that would have helped slow them down.

Flip - that was fast!

How long did you expect it to take?

It's only (some) bods on this site who struggle getting the bike to upright, getting on and riding off.... Usually within the high stress enviroment of Tesco's fuel station or at home.

You are a sarcastic old bugger aren't you !

For the price of the BMW alarm, i could get an Abus Granite lock/chain combo. If there is no ground anchor in the motorcycle bay, i could pop the chain through the rear luggage racks on the GSA? At least it can't be wheeled off easily.

You mean the luggage racks that unbolt in 2 mins or can be cut through them in less than 10 seconds :blast

Better off with a chain through the centre of the final drive wrapped around a lamp post :thumby:

This "wave of bike theft" the Baron mentions has always been going on.
And BMW's have always been stolen, so dismiss the barons assumption that BMW's were/are safe. In fact BMW's are sought by the thieves because of their high value parts.

Always use a lock or shackle but don't worry about buying the most expensive available, because if they're lifting it into a van it doesn't matter what you've got fitted and if they're coming with equipment to cut it, again it doesn't matter what you've got fitted, it takes the same amount of time to cut an expensive chain as it does a budget priced chain with the right equipment.

A lock & chain/shackle will stop the chancer scrotes. And instead of buying one mega expensive lock/chain buy two cheaper items.
So maybe the thieves will then move to the bike with only one lock, if you're lucky.
A steering lock offers absolutely no resistance to anyone.

It takes seconds to start a BMW of you know what you're doing.
I have a handy little device i use to remover barrels and re-code keys for customers) . The older 1100/1150 models ignitions are useless and they don't even get damaged when being "started" , the 1200 models offer no more resistance but do get damaged ... Another far easier and less messy method is to remove the barrel of the helmet/seat lock and take it to a auto key cutter and have a key cut to fit the bike
Those barrels have one less leaf/shorter guides, but with the computerised equipment now avaialble to key cutters it's simple to work out the missing leaf/ length.
I've demonstrated how fast it can be done at GSer events (using my little device).

And i've also shown how quick and simple it is to immobilise a bike to stop the scrotes starting it with one easy action (pointless me telling how on a public forum).

The chances of having a bike bay space, big enough for a GSA and with a handy lamp post are pretty unlikely. My point was at least it couldn't be wheeled off with the chain on and perhaps thats a better security deterrent than alarm and disc lock? You just reminded me about the final drive hole though. Could go through that and through the wheel so it cant be wheeled off without removing the chain. of course if you had a few blokes and a van theres no stopping it anyway Not necessary until late January but just thinking whats the better thing to buy.

An Anti Pinch pin will give you more options of what you can chain it to , as you will have more length of chain to play with. But as Steptoe has said , they can cut through any chain with the right tools.

I tried to find the video but failed. Anyway there us security video of two scrots nicking a bike in an underground car park. They put the wheel with the lock on onto a trolley and wheel it right out of there.
