advice needed please been out on bike today(like everybody else judging by all the bikes at Hawes and Devils Bridge):) well on way home behind a lorry it threw up a big stone which thankfully hit the top of my precious to me shoei xr1000 it now has a nice small pea size chip in the paint :tears:tears is this detrimental to the helmet cos i really like this helmet it light and fits me like a glove and because of price i dont want to buy new helmet and break it in again thoughts please ???

Personally I'd still wear it if it really is just a paint-deep chip, but I'm sure there will be many who advise otherwise.

I'd probably press around it with two thumbs, hard, and do the same in the same spot on the other side (IYSWIM) and see if there's ANY difference discernible.....if there is, look at your household insurance or bike insurance and you may find you can claim.

If there is no difference, and looking at the chip as closely as you can, no signs of cracking, I'd wear it.

We can only presume you're not being serious:thumb

No i,m being serious i was thinking more about the safety aspect of the helmet and if it was going to cost me to get new shoei its because i like this particular helmet like most people i,ve got a couple of back up helmets but this one was the favourite you know the one you always want to be pristine. just never thought of dab of paint and will be like new.:thumb
probably all sounds a bit anal excuse the pun :blast

if you start putting paints on the helmet and it will probably react with the finish and weaken the structure, consequences of the touch up will be far worse then the stone chip, and chances are you will get a few more stone chips before the seasons over
