Got a punture on my mates r100 the other day..Small nail about 2mm diameter..Pulled the nail out and tried to repair it with the stop and go tyre plugger without joy...After about 5 miles the plug went back into the tyre resulting in rapid deflation..The plug looked compltete and good when the tyre was removed...Question is where did i go wrong followed the instructions to the letter ! ...Should i have reamed the hole out a bit bigger ? is a 2mm nail a bit small it was a struggle to get the probe in but with the oil supplied possible but i wonder if the oil lube caused the plug to slide back in through a tight hole.....Any advise would be welcome
Thanks

2mm does sound small but just a thought........When you got the plug into the tyre, and then removed the "plug gun" from the tyre, did you then pull the plug.....as if you were trying to pull it out again....to seat it on the inside of the tyre......hope this makes sense...... :)

After advice from this site, I bought one of these kits and have used it recently on the car and the 'bike, and it has worked perfectly both times.... :thumb

Come on all you experts...HELP :bow ..Or should i use the bm kit instead cuz i lost confidence in the stop and go plugger :nenau

Try doing it again  , only you will know what went wrong. They generally provide a semi permanent repair :thumb

Ditto Jonnie Comet

Did you give the plug a good tug once you had released the gun?
Try to get an old tyre and have a few practise goes. That way you can see how it fits on the inside of the tyre.

Just repaired a tyre on my mate's R1.....complete success, and passed an MOT same day.

As I said earlier, did you "pull" on the plug, once you had got it in ? If so, did you then cut off the bit of the plug that was still sticking out of the tyre ? If so, did you possibly pull too hard, and cut too much off ?

Strangely, I'm more concerned with your failure, than my successes. I would also like to know how it can fail..........

I also interested in why it failed to seal... They have always worked for me on cars, motorcycles and even a truck.
It is important that the plug is pulled gently to seal it on the inside of the tyre, and the 'tail' must also be trimmed off flush, to avoid the seal being disturbed when the bike is ridden.

FWIW, it can be difficult to seat the mushroom inside some tyres that use steel belted construction, especially if some of the steel braiding is sticking up where the mushroom must seal.

Stop & Go

Seen one used, brilliant tool, you can't be without one, the tool breaks the bead of the rim so you can get the plug in from the inside of the tyre.

Seen 'em on ebay for about £30

Thanks for the replys :thumb ..Yes i did pull the plug and trimmed the end off...Infact i followed the instructions to the letter...All looked good to start with then after about 5 miles the tyre went down fast...When the tyre was removed the plug was inside and only about 6 mm long so it must have seated...It was a small nail and it looked to me like the plug squeased out the hole into the tyre not helped by the oil i think...Thats why i woundered if the hole should have been reamed out a bit bigger or would glue be better than oil :nenau
