Insurance and especially insurance for R1300GS's is a complete nightmare it seems.

If you've seen my other posts you'll know I have the stalling R1300GS ASA which has been rejected and being replaced by BMW with my dealer.

I'm replacing the bike with virtually identical bike..... a R1300GS TE NON-ASA!

My ASA's insurance has been running since March with BMW Insurance and was pretty competitive at around £750 with a total excess of £450. At the time I could have got it slightly less but the excess were much higher.

Just called them today, "Hi my bike is faulty, BMW are taking it back, they are giving me a new one, the only thing you need to do is remove the letters ASA" (the number plate is a private one so I am transferring that over). "Sorry sir... computer says no"... even though absolutely nothing has changed apart from three letters, your insurance company (AGEAS) no longer insure R1300GS's as they are too high insurance group". But we can insure you with Highway Insurance for £1800.

At that point.... I nearly fell over... they said they would cancel the policy if I wanted and waive the fee, giving me back £550.83..... that's nice of them.

So I am now frantically trying to get other quotes... it seems Bikesure are about the best, slightly cheaper than BMW Insurance but less bells and whistles plus the excess is twice as much.

And can you guess who the underwriter/insurance company is?...... that's right good old AGEAS!

Jokers!

Try Hastings…..

Get a new quote with your current provider, rather than changing your existing policy. That may get you a policy at the right price.

Underwriters will give a better price for 'new business', over existing. My policy situation was the same as yours regarding pricing - renewal with the same underwriter was 30% cheaper elsewhere.......

I tried already... Online quote states sorry we cannot insure this vehicle based on the information provided.

Nothing has changed other than non-ASA.

Yes, they use the same underwriter. But, oddly, if you go through Swinton directly, sometimes the results can be slightly different.

The mystery of faith.
We proclaim your Death, O Lord, and profess your Resurrection until you come again.

I'd try, if you haven't already of course.
