Well,I suppose I had to at least try it out.............. :P

I charged it up overnight, and when it had 'found itself' ,I programmed in my 'home' position.

I decided to try it out this morning,en route to the Manchester GMEX,as I know exactly how to get there, and thought it would be interesting to see what route the Quest came up with.....

And so,we come to my first GPS problems and questions..........

It didn`t seem possible to just type in 'Manchester GMEX' and find a route.
The Quest appeared to need a street number and name.
So it was lobbed into the Vitara glovebox for the journey.
Can I just enter GMEX ??

After the show,I thought I`d try the Quest in 'find home' mode.

I live on the Wirral, close to Junction 4 of the M53.....so I use the M56 for Manchester to avoid the Mersey tunnel tolls and all the traffic light frustration through Liverpool to get to the M62 ( it can take over half an hour from my house just to reach the M62).

Leaving the GMEX,the Quest was doing its damned to get me to go on the M62,including telling me to perform a U-turn when I was very close to the start of the M56,and when I reached the M56 it was telling me to join the M6 (no doubt to head for the M62).

Ok...it would have got me home, but it didn`t seem able to accept that there was a more preferable route.

Is there a setting that may have allowed for this ?

I must add though, that in the process of 'testing it',I deliberately took a few wrong turns in congested areas and along some country lanes and the 'Off Route' alarm came up very quickly...and so did a recalculated route home.

So,yeah.....it`s quite impressive,really.

You need to get the optional "Telepathic software" if you want it to know about local conditions and traffic :D

One of the guys I ride with got a gps thingy and now follows it blindly to where ever it takes him, funny when he entered in the wrong address on our ride out to 3x motorcycles in Dorset, we turned left and he went straight on. We had enjoyed a nice lunch and looked around the bikes by the time he turned up after realizing his mistake ... think I'll stick to looking at a map and lifting the head now and then to read the road signs. :thumb

I`d rather keep my head up to look at the road (and to see the signs)...and stick my head down now and again to look at the map,but after reading a few threads here,I think that adding a GPS to that system....rather than replacing my maps with a GPS ...will add a great deal of benefit without detracting anything.

When you have learned about the querks that come with this superb gadget and accepted that it is one of the best things that a biker can have - you MUST get the sound hookup

One thing at a time...
:D

I actually use this feature...

I leave the GPS (60C) set to "Shortest route" when I want to find new places.. it takes me down some cool roads more often than not.

If I want to get someplace at fastest speed, I set routing to "Fastest route".

When testing the thing, it's important to remember that if you know of a better route.... you dont' need to use the GPS then do ya?... :bounce1

I don't put the thing on when I KNOW (how many times have I decided to alter the plan... ) that I'm only going somewhere I know...

Al...

Let's start a new thread:

-How far can you throw a GPS when you are mad and frustrated over it?

It can be a competition at meetings!
