Well,I suppose I had to at least try it out..............
I charged it up overnight, and when it had 'found itself' ,I programmed in my 'home' position.
I decided to try it out this morning,en route to the Manchester GMEX,as I know exactly how to get there, and thought it would be interesting to see what route the Quest came up with.....
And so,we come to my first GPS problems and questions..........
It didn`t seem possible to just type in 'Manchester GMEX' and find a route.
The Quest appeared to need a street number and name.
So it was lobbed into the Vitara glovebox for the journey.
Can I just enter GMEX ??
After the show,I thought I`d try the Quest in 'find home' mode.
I live on the Wirral, close to Junction 4 of the M53.....so I use the M56 for Manchester to avoid the Mersey tunnel tolls and all the traffic light frustration through Liverpool to get to the M62 ( it can take over half an hour from my house just to reach the M62).
Leaving the GMEX,the Quest was doing its damned to get me to go on the M62,including telling me to perform a U-turn when I was very close to the start of the M56,and when I reached the M56 it was telling me to join the M6 (no doubt to head for the M62).
Ok...it would have got me home, but it didn`t seem able to accept that there was a more preferable route.
Is there a setting that may have allowed for this ?
I must add though, that in the process of 'testing it',I deliberately took a few wrong turns in congested areas and along some country lanes and the 'Off Route' alarm came up very quickly...and so did a recalculated route home.
So,yeah.....it`s quite impressive,really.
