STOP THAT!

Thanks for the advice guys, ok, shopping list time. . .

£6885.00 F800GS, of course. Yellow is the colour I reckon, sorry grey dudes.
£795.00 Comfort Pack. ABS, Heated Grips and Centre Stand. ABS 'cause I've heard good things, Centre stand to avoid needing a paddock stand, I'm not convinced about the heated grips, but hey.
£123.00 On-board Computer. 'Cause it's a must apparently.
£172.00 Alarm. 'cuase it'll be parked at work.
£7945.00 Total so far.
Hand Guards, 'cause they're cool. The BMW site doesn't say how much they are.
All I need now is an accomplice to the bank robbery I'm going to have to pull off to get this little lot.

I've never bought a Beemer before, how flexible are they on price?

There not very flexible on price IMO - expect a few hundred. (that price looks similar to mine with LED indicators and scottoiler). I have the alarm, not for insurance reduction, just more likely i'll hear the theaving skumbag trying to make off with it.

I've not used my heated grips much this month, but when i road tested at the beginning of Feb when it was -2 to 4C, they were lush and i used them a lot in March. I could see them taking the chill off in the summer evening drive home and think it'll make the difference between a 3 season and 4 season motorcycle.

With the hand guards - don't got for the F800GS ones - the '08 R1200GS are larger, retain the original bar ends (weights) and fit without any adjustments. The word on the street is that the F8GS hand guards are not as heavy and increase vibration - though i do not have 1st hand experience of this. The 1200 ones cost ~75 pounds for the base guards + ~30 pounds if you want the extended pieces (from Motorworks - link above).

The key thing with this bike - don't just talk about it on the forums, get out there, ride it and enjoy it! It's a mad bike - slower than my previous, but a lot of fun and better for my license!

Mine has heated grips, OBC, factory centre stand, but no ABS, and no alarm.

Wouldn't be without the heated grips, the centre stand is dead handy, and the OBC means you can think "Blimey, it's that cold!" rather than "It's cold, but I don't know how cold it is", and "Oh good, I can travel another 8 miles on the fuel I have left - oh no I can't, I'll have to stop here".:blast

Having no ABS means you can think, "Ohfeck would the ABS have kicked in by now or am I about to hit the back of this Transit because I didn't notice those roadworks" (DAMHIK).:augie

And all those replies saying "yellow is fastest" are, of course, incorrect. Since there are only 2 factory colour options, what they should say is, of course, that yellow is faster.:D

Ahem...

If you notice, the yellow bike has way more stickers on it than the grey...bit chav if you ask me...Anyway, my point is, more stickers, more weight, not as fast.

I think that provides the first sensible agrument to the question :)

Hummmmmmmmmm, what about the argument that the surface of said stickers are more slick than the mat surface of the bodywork and therefore are more aerodynamic as any wind resistance slips easily by. More stickers slipity slidey through the air.

See, I can be sensible too. :bounce1

I think you are referring to laminar flow.

I agree, this would be an advantage if the whole surface was of the same material, but I'm sure that the point of transition from stickered area to un-stickered area would create parasite drag, resulting in an overal reduction in velocity.

Its simple...work it out:

D = 1/2 x Cd x r x V Sq. x A

:)

Errrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrr, yeah, what he said. :nenau

Your formula is fatally flawed. Let us take it apart:

"1/2xCd": You do not give us any information on which Cd, does 'The Cheeky Girls Greatest Hits' have the same value as, say, Jethro Tulls' 'Heavy Horses'?

"r x V Sq": presuming 'r' is the radius of the Cd, are we to times this by the squared velocity of an African swallow carrying a coconut or a European one?

"A": Amps? bloody Amps? Jeez.....:nenau

Which goes to prove that grey ones are ridden by geeky numpties who talk too much.

Wheras yellow ones are ridden by tastless, poorly educated plebs who probably need to cover their bike in stickers to hide all the scars from repeatedly dropping it..

Why did you look at me when you said that? :pullface
