Stopped today by the Spanish police

I think they go after people riding with Airpods style earbuds in ear (and maybe noise cancelling). You cannot wear those when riding/driving in Spain (helmet comms are ok). They are probably trying to curtail people using noise cancelling, .

Mine are noise cancelling tho I can still hear faint sirens and my in helmet comms, i suffer with tinnitus so if I don’t wear them I just get a buzzing sound for several days.

I understand. I have bilateral tinnitus. I wear plugs.

I use noise cancelling airpods (non pro) when on foot and (very rarely) when cycling if I have to take a call (noise cancelling off in that case).

Bought then last year or so. Took a while to get used to the noise cancelling and almost got run over twice (walking) in the first few weeks. :D
I wasn’t using transparency mode, of course, that would have funneled the oncoming vehicle sound in.

Cardo’s new helmet is noise cancelling, so interesting to see how that works legally.

Whereabouts in Spain were you.? as a few of us are off to the Pyrenees on Thursday and wear in ear monitors.

Was in the Pyrenees early June saw loads of Rozzers mostly on the peripherie of major towns/cities. lots of speed traps and random side of the road checks.

We were lucky and didn't get stopped but a significant presence compared to France.

Not far from Cangas del Narcea, I think what also made him think they were audio is the string attached to the plugs ran inside my jacket so may have looked like audio cable.

So by their reckoning, listening to music being played through earplugs can be a distraction and possible danger.... I totally get that.

But how can they fine someone for doing so but say it's okay for deaf people to ride and not be fined.
Because that would discriminatory against disabled people.

But, I don't get why they are illegal for those that choose to listen to music :nenau
The law in France was made to stop the yoof that drove around in cars with headphones/plugs and were therefore not aware of anything but their music.
It was applied to bikes and cars.
In helmet speakers are allowed.

Stupid bloody law IMHO. Luckily I've never been stopped but the time will come one day.

I ride with expensive custom moulded UE monitors and have listened to music, comms and navigation whilst riding for probably 20 years since the days of iPods, PMR radios and Autocom. I'm now on a touch screen Carplay unit (Ridernav R7M) and a Shoei Neotec2 (Sena) helmet comms setup modified with a 3.5mm jack for monitors instead of speakers.

Whats the difference between my illegal setup and legal in-helmet speakers connected to your audio device ? I probably have my audio set way lower than helmet speakers as its much clearer anyway.

Rather than detract from safety I would go as far as to suggest it helps me to maintain focus on long boring stretches of road rather than daydream or lose concentration.

I can still hear traffic and sirens and can simply mute the audio instantly if needed, I also find my focus mentally blocks out the background music when conditions require it eg approaching sudden traffic or busy intersections.

I'm due to upgrade to a Neotec3 soon, I guess I'll just have to use in-helmet speakers now as next years planned tour is a return to the Picos.

Gotta make up that money shortfall now from the decreased tourism elsewhere.

I simply don’t see the attraction of listening to music when riding. I’ve never done it, so blissfully unaware of the benefits. 🤔
I do wear ear plugs though 👍
On a side note, I recently bought a Shoei Neotec. It’s the first Shoei I’ve ever owned, I usually prefer Arai. Anyway, my initial thought was it’s quite heavy?! Then when I started riding at speed, the noise in my head was unbearable. It was similar to the buffeting sound you get with a back window open in the car!!
I stopped and closed all the vents and the noise disappeared!! :blast 🤣🤣
Anyway, doubt I’ll ever buy the Sena system and be safe in Spain. Guess the cops are looking for flips and mouthpiece microphones. Dead giveaway and easy 200€ 😬

I've never done too, until ~5 years ago when I bought my first intercom for a trip with a friend in Germany. I've always been "against" intercoms until then.
I only listen to music on motorway transfers, and it's a fucking game changer. Really helps (at least works for me) with boredom.

I think it's specifically in ear, bud type things they're looking for though.

Fine with speakers in the helmet I think?
