If they play music it’s a fine €200 if you wear just normal none playing ear plugs provided your in helmet speaker music volume does not impede your ability to hear traffic or sirens it’s ok.

Stupid bloody law IMHO.

Rather than detract from safety I would go as far as to suggest it helps me to maintain focus on long boring stretches of road rather than daydream or lose concentration.

I can still hear traffic and sirens and can simply mute the audio instantly if needed, I also find my focus mentally blocks out the background music when conditions require it eg approaching sudden traffic or busy intersections.

I'm due to upgrade to a Neotec3 soon, I guess I'll just have to use in-helmet speakers now as next years planned tour is a return to the Picos.

I tend to agree with your opinion. Like you, I find listening to music on the rare occasion that I have to do long motorway stints a blessing. I do so anyway, and really, as long as you can cut the music feed subtly (they ain't stoopid) before you remove your helmet, then it's going to be very difficult to prove that you were listening to music at the time you were stopped.

I only ever listen to music (or audio books) on long days on the motorway. It makes the time fly by and I'm sure it keeps me far more alert. Without it, every minute lasts an hour.

On one memorable occasion, riding from Channel Tunnel to Limoges (about 8 hrs riding), I had to ride up and down a couple of autoroute junctions because I was just getting towards the end of a good book (Liberty by Garrison Keillor).

Again, I agree with your first paragraph 100%. However, your second one demonstrates exactly why the powers that be have taken this path. Before you say it, it IS the same in a car, but I suspect that this is due to "legacy"; if cars were a new invention, we probably would not be allowed to have radios, music or satnav voice in them.

I have tried the music whilst riding, it was and is a distraction, not for me, I would rather enjoy the actual experience of riding a motorcycle, something that a few think comes naturally, right up until they are a part of the sceneary....

As for the sex thing, I dated a dominatrix for a while, indulged in "parachutes" group sex, dungeons, latex, rubber and my favourite....Torture.....Cat of nine tails with metal spikes on my erect penis, it never died, not once....The more blood the better.
I know, too much information, but sensory satisfaction is my thing, always has been.

Can you provide a link to this legislation? First I’ve heard about not being able to listen to music via in helmet speakers.

Hi, I do apologise (to DING-DONG as well).

I hadn't done my research correctly. You are right, I am wrong. listening to music on the go in your helmet is LEGAL with certain caveats. They being:

1) The comms system must me homologated in the EU,
2) The speakers must never be "IN EAR'
3) The volume must be such that you can hear traffic around you (very subjective and therefore a "grey area")

I checked this out a few weeks ago but I only used AI and read a few headlines (always a mistake). On this occasion I delved deeper and even went on the DGT site which has no easily locatable information. To be fair (to me) helmet comms have only been made legal in Spain since 2022.

I shall do better next time and endeavour not to give duff info in future.

After reading all the whinging about an another country’s new traffic laws.
You have two choices if travelling there,
Do what you are asked,
Or don’t,
and if you get caught then pay the fine.
Your energy would be better used in complaining to those in charge of the country you’re in, at least that may cause change.
