Picking up on Burish's thread I am getting some strange feedback from my rear end??
Whilst upright no problem but when cornering I do experience some vibration/rumbling from the rear end. As soon as I return to the upright position it goes. Is this normal? The bike is a 1200gs 07 with 20k on the clock. There is no oil leaks or play in the wheel and the final drive oil has been changed every 6k according to the receipts.
Does anyone have any suggestions?

They are tourances are they renowned for it? They are squared off as well. I did try to get 90-100psi into them as recomended by somebody on the site but the garage pump would only go up to 80. The steering did feel light but it did make it handle a bit strange!

If you place the palm of your right hand on the top of the final drive and spin the rear wheel with your left hand, if you can feel any rumbling the crown bearing is knackered. You will need to spin the wheel quite fast. When mine went though I couldn't feel anything at all riding the bike, so unless its really bad its probably something else.

Whit????:eek

From personal experience Ive had a slight rumble when cornering and it's coming from the tyres. BMW tech told me 32psi in front and 36psi in rear.

Well I tried that and there is nothing coming through. I suspect that it is the tyre being squared off and as I go over I am feeling the 'sharp' edges of the tyre tread pattern. I spotted them as I was spinning the wheel. I also checked the wheel for play at several different positions and again no play. I really should change the tyre and see if that helps.
THe tyre pressures are fine but I do thank you for your apparent concern. My spidey senses were tingling and I could feel the piss-taking sharks begining to circle.

both my oilheads have had increased noise while cornering on tourances. particularly noticeable with panniers fitted.
if there is no play in the rear wheel/swing arm pivots, then i suspect this is what you are experiencing.

i don't worry about squared off tyres. just use them until there is about 2mm left in the middle before chucking them. maybe they don't feel quite so nice as a new set, but it really doesn't make much difference to the handling.

Had the same thing , dissappeared after new runner fitted .....

New tyres it is then. Just need to finish the bathrooms, MoT the car, fix the greenhouse, change the front tyres on the other car, find a top box mounting plate, get the eucalptus tree pollarded, fix the washing machine as well as the sewing machine, clear out the loft, and 'get rid of all your shite in the garage so I can get to the washing machine' (shite that is the stuff for your bathrooms that were so important). So end of the week then!

All those that said it was the tyre go to the top of the class. Changed the tyre and it has all gone quiet. And all the other jobs are nearly done as well.
Thanks for your ideas and suggestions

I'm sooooo pleased you said that, I've got Tourences on mine (new to the GS's don't forget) and these tyres are the weirdest things I have ever ridden on, but got loads of tread left so they are staying.
