Street Glide Special

I was checking out a used Challenger at Wollaston BMW the other week, as we are thinking about a new Pusuit next season (short supply this year).

The red is a tad bright for my taste, but some quality detail everywhere you look: -

In the past, the only 2 vehicles I have written off were 1 car and 1 bike.......both red, so that one is not for me, although it's the Limited model so has a few extras on it and is the cheapest(?) in the UK at the moment.

If you want a road glide or Electra glide for touring… buy an ultra… better suspension out the box and a tour pack as standard

Edit: now called “limited”….

Still nearly £30k though

After looking twizzle it would probably be a Street Glide Special. Although I haven't toured on the RKS with Jayne on the back.

Same bike apart from the fairing

Get a QD batwing for the RKS and you have a Street Glide……

And QD Tour Pac… and bingo you a street glide, a limited and a RKS…plug and play

No need to throw away any money spent to date…. Just have three bikes in one…. ( and you have done the suspension allready)

Doc, I have just been through this process… so this is my findings for what it’s worth, but appreciate we are all different.

I wanted a SG and was set on it.

Chatted long and hard with SWMBO and agreed she will still want to tour occasionally and have the odd day out. So this left a bit of a dilemma. The SG is suspended low… it’s the custom cruiser of the touring bikes… according to some, many buy a SG, add a Tour Pack (top box) and a pillion! Then the suspension can’t cope. The screen is lower, but taller one is available… seat is flatter, harder etc.

So I looked at the the Ultra Limited… with a detaching docking kit to take the tour pack off. The bike is suspended higher etc. as it is an out and out twoup tourer. When my missus is in the back, it’s comfy, bigger seat, has the mahoosive seat on the back, has extras like heated grips, lower faring on the bars etc etc.

But I now run it without the tour pack and it is as good as a SG just with extras! Comfier seat, bigger screen, leg protection, etc. but it’s not quite as cool looking as a SG in this form, I accept that. But it gives me the best of both worlds. So I found it was worth going for a UL and stripping down, rather than getting SG and then suffering extra weight needing an upgrade the suspension to accommodate the pillion and a tour pack.

Just a different viewpoint… good luck with the chase for the next bike… always a great time ;):D

I can't speak for Doc obviously, but I think Twizz may have hit the nail on the head with the QD Batwing fairing and an aftermarket top box. After all, the Street Glide Special is identical to the RKS apart from it has the fairing and some extra dials, buttons and of course tunes, speakers and all that jazz. Doc has already done the suspension. His call though....:nenau

My problem is I'm never satisfied. I love my RKS. I don't fancy a Road Glide and am definitely not saying there is anything wrong with them but not for me.

Yes it does look good that. I might look into it

I have to say, if I was in Doc’s position, I would seriously look into this… looks very plausible and cool.

I'm not in a rush to do anything yet. The Challenger certainly gets good results but might be a bit of a lump for me. Although I haven't sat on one.

Yet it’s lighter than the RKS ?

That has surprised me.

You asked for weights the other day !!

Challenger might be a bit physically big for you.
I had to change the seat and bars on my RKS to make it more roomy, yet the Challenger is perfect out of the box (for me)

I liked the Challenger's size when I test rode one. One of the few bikes that doesn't look comically small when I ride it...hence the Goldwing. I also found the RKS quite cramped in factory configuration. :thumb
