I've got a 1200gs with the bmw spotlights(not L.E.D)
took the spotlights apart to see how I would change the bulb if needed
and I couldn't see how it could be done, anyone know?

Hi fella, if i understand you right? You don't take them apart, the bulb clips in from the rear of the unit. Unclip the wiring harness at the back push down on the retaining plug, remove the clip pull out the bulb and replace?

I must admit I find it easier to remove them to change the bulb.
Remove the mounting bolt
Unclip plug from bulb (can't remember, but believe you need to squeeze the plug either both sides or front and back to free clips to allow you to pull it off.
Undo the 4 housing screws (you see them when looking at the back of the housing).
Change bulb. (H11)I used these as they have a 2 year guarantee. http://www.autobulbsdirect.co.uk/H11-Twenty20-Daylight-Bulb.html
Reverse procedure.

I've got some nice looking LED replacements on order. They might be a better bet than new bulbs. They'll arrived eventually

Hi Bendy Toy

What have you found, I Had a look for some last year didn't really find an answer so ended up putting Philips Night Breakers in?

I bought some Cree led bulbs, plugged into the harness they look very bright, put them into the gsa spotlights and the bulb doesn't go in far enough into the bulb housing, barely any of the light is actually hitting the reflector, utter shite, took them back off again. I'll get some pics at the weekend.

I keep thinking about trying a pair of these in place of my standard H11's: http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/331209073212?_trksid=p2060353.m1438.l2649&ssPageName=STRK%3AMEBIDX%3AIT Anyone tried anything similar?
These are similar to what I bought,

As I said above they simply do not go far enough into the GSA spots for the light to actually hit the reflector, barely any light coming out of the front of the lenses even though they look really bright before fitting them.
Your link looks like they will have a similar problem, unless different spots allow the bulb to go further in when fitted, wish I'd took some photos now as most of the light is coming out of the rear of the spotlight.

A lot of these pineapple bulbs in the lamp have not been as good as they look outside. Part of the problem is reflectors and lenses designed for a small point light source when LEDs cover a much wider surface area. Same issue applies with HIDs though good ones can be ok. Ive got a Les Wassall HID in my headlamp and its really great. Very good depth and spread of light without dazzle (until I hit the main beam).
