Good Evening all...

I've got an 02 reg, 1150 GS single spark. 46k on the clock..

Thursday night, while riding home from work the bike developed a odd missfire... Infact it cut out several times when the clutch was pulled in.

Now when I looked into it, I found that the bikes electrics cut when the bars were turned to the right. So I checked the wires leading to the ignition barrel, And found these were broken.

I have now fitted a replacement ignition wires (new part from Cannon at 45 quid).

This solved the cutting out when the bars are moved but the bike is still stuttering/holding back sometimes.. And still cuts out sometimes when the clutch is pulled in.

The tickover is also eratic, going up and down very slighty.

She had the hall sensor replaced by Cannon's just after christmas as she wouldn't start what so ever... So I think I can assume this is fine.

I've changed the plugs twice(old set and brand new set)... still got the problem.
Tryed swapping the leads over to see which side the missfire is... But I cant figure out/locate which side it is.
As I'd had the tank off I checked the trottle cables are both seated fine, and nothing else has been disturbed.

So... where do I go from here?

Edit... Just had another quick go... And got the most almighty shock off the l/h H/T lead... So I'm guessing I need new HT leads!

Yep I'd say you get big shock offa dem wires Boss! Specially if dey's breakin down!!

If you can't get any soon get some ACF 50 and give em a spray from top to bottom that shoudl sort it temporarily :aidan

Leads

Run it in the dark you shopuld see sparking if it's the leads. Don't gtrab hold of it the next belt might be the big one. (if she's insured get the missis to do it).

Both leads are shot.... Now its dusk you can actually see the sparks onto the cylinder heads! :blast

Infact the bolt I got earlier was from just touching the l/h lead where is goes into the cap! :eek

Well.. problem solved (hopefully)... Might even get a few thousand miles done now before something else gives up on the old girl! *touches wood*

:D

Luck.... and my GS... definatly not two things that you mention close together... Unless accompanied by the word BAD.

Still I figure... If I keep replacing bits, I'll have a brand new bike eventually! :D

Just ordered the two HT leads £36 quid each

Still hopefully that will fix the stutttttttur... (god I hope it does, my wallet canna take much more captian).

update:

New plug leads and plugs fitted... And... wait for it... wait for it... No stututututer!

Wooooooooooooooooot :D

I'm off round the lake district & possibly scotland (depends if my mates riding his R65 or his 125) in a couple of weeks... hopefully the old girl will at least last that long before something else goes wrong!
