My new to me 2003 1150GS seems to stutter a bit at low revs, so for example from stationary I have to grab a handful of revs otherwise feels like it will stall, at a small amount of revs I can feel the engine stuttering. I have set the throttle bodies and idle which is around 1100.

last time fuel filter changed?check hose in tank the u bend one might have small split.

Now that you mention it I can hear the fuel pump all of the time, is this usual? I can’t remember from my last 1150GS

Coil pack maybe?

I think it is coils I need.

I disconnected the LHS secondary coil whilst engine was running and the engine tone changed , disconnected the LHS maiin stick coil and no change to engine running!

I then disconnected the RHS secondary coil and there was no change, disconnected the RHS main stick coil and the engine tone changed.

So I think I need 1 stick coil for the LHS and maybe a secondary coil pack to sort the RHS secondary - 2003 GS twin spark

Does anyone have any spare for sale?

There isn't a secondary coil pack.

Ok not that familiar with the secondary plug set up, I thought the secondary plugs went to a coil pack under the tank if not where are the coils for the secondary plugs on a twin spark? Ta!

Ah, I thought that you were thinking that the secondary plugs ran of a stick coil setup.

My fault, ignore me..

Just buy new from a BMWs main dealer
Main ones are about £120 each & come with a 2 year warranty
I bought two last month and spot on now
Old ones lasted 20 years and 70.000m so cannot grumble for a £240 repair (£12 a year)
Replace as a pair and keep the old good one as a spare in the bike’s toolkit

Have a think about what you’re doing and the conclusion you’ve reached !!! .. you do not need the coil that supplies the lower plugs via HT leads

Changed the coil and seems to be running so much smoother, I’ll take her out for a ride to see. I hadn’t ridden an 1150GS (or any other bike more recently) for some time and although I remember them being a bit agricultural it just didn’t seem right!
