Sudden power loss issue.

Sudden power loss like this can be caused by the air intake temperature sensor.
Because changes in temperature affect air density, the ECU uses the info to determine fuelling requirements. On the GS the sensor is behind the air filter housing. ( also check the airfilter isn't clogged this is critical for preventing a higher air temp reading)

Hope this helps.

Fixed?

Fuel pump and FPC arrived Thursday and fitted same day. Good parts service from Rainbow and from Sherlock's who stripped out the pump and sent it same morning.

Bike tested yesterday and back into dealer for the 'adaption values' to be reset to recognise the pump although I'm not sure what practical difference that makes as everything seemed to function before the reset.

Mikemike - I will look to cannibalise the FPC at some point. I'm going to research if there's any effective way of bench testing it before I do that if I have time.

Jwfr - thanks for the input re the air sensor. I'll bear it in mind if I get further problems. Not sure though how fuel levels would affect it and I'm on the third air filter since the problem initially arose.

Stephen S. - I'll try to keep you advised but you may have to wait for a definitive yes or no on the 'fix' for obvious reasons.

Maybe you can swap it in and see if it works with the new pump and you'll know you've still got a good one. Very handy to have a complete one in the tank bag, for you, or a riding buddy.
